Were your "shows" inside or out in your parking lot? Were you required to get a permit for your outdoor shows?
What kind of "shows" were these? Music? Did you charge admission for the entertainment?
IF so why not figure in the cost of security into the admission and charge accordingly.
What kind of people are you serving that you need security? How large or small is your place? Is it a regular bar or it is a cabaret type establishment where you promote shows with each opening?
Did the city require you to hire ONLY police officers or was that the decision of the Chief or other commanding officer? If so it is the police brass not the boogeyman conservative government shaking you down.
You are leaving out lots of details for the ends to justify your means. That is to criticize the alleged "conservative" government.
BTW did you bother to check local ordinances before you decided to invest in this bar?
And the food sales....Ok just about every state in the south requires food be served in establishments that serve liquor and fortified wine. Here in NC the old law was 50% alcohol 50% food. The law was changed several years ago to 60% alcohol, 40% food.
South Carolina has a "by the drink tax". As a matter of fact ,SC used to be a mini bottle state. In SC it is illegal to have liquor "delivered". Bars managements MUST visit an ABC package store to purchase and transport their liquor. Beer and wine can be delivered. NC's tax is "by the bottle".
