Underlining Fears
by Colonel Bob Pappas, USMC, Retired

It’s a sad day for freedom in America with Obama’s whirling dervish spinning its propaganda, misinformation and disinformation through CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, and MSNBC about the April 15th “Tea Parties.” Obama’s senior political advisor David Axelrod, in a CNN “Face the Nation” interview stated: "I think any time you have severe economic conditions there is always an element of disaffection that can mutate into something that's unhealthy." In addition to being an insult to what probably represents the attitudes of a majority of Americans, Axelrod’s was a tacit threat. For the Obama Administration to refer to millions of patriotic citizens who engaged in legitimate protest activity as being “unhealthy” is on its face counter-patriotic. But, if they “liked” the “Tea Parties” they are going to love July 4th.

Leftists’ attempt to divert attention from legitimate outrage against the Obama regime’s obscene spending (and impending monstrous taxation) by attacking them is an indication of their underlying fear and vulnerability to the light of day.

During the years that the political left was busy undermining the country’s security activities with its 5th column behavior and protests, they screamed that protests were “patriotic.” However, no one should be surprised when millions of ordinary Americans protest obscene spending writ small by the Obama regime, that protest activity is now characterized as “subversive!?” Obama’s mouthpieces, CNN’s and MSNBC’s talking head’s desiccated brains’ best effort at a pathetic excuse for “news,” described the protests as “tea-bagging” (a common behavior among sexual perverts). It is no wonder that those two are about to go out of business given that their intellectual, political, moral and economic “stock” is in the advanced stages of metastasis.

A child’s solution to his economic aspirations might well be to use a copier to print money for ice cream and candy or to expand his/her lemon aide business. Obama’s economic reasoning follows that same logic. If the Federal Government, including the Congress (Obama and McCain voted for the trillion dollar bailout) and Bush had acted responsibly last summer when sub-prime lending (set up by Democrats, supported by Democrats and defended by Democrats to advance the CRA), debacle brought down Leman Brothers, Bear Stearns, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG, the banking industry, and the stock market, the entire matter would be over now and the country would be on its way to a healthy recovery without the world-wide effects.

Obama’s “spread the wealth around” by doubling and tripling the problem will likely have incalculable consequences most of which are not going to be pretty. An objective observer can see that the outrageous deficits of the Bush Administration are dwarfed by Obama’s projected deficits. Either his people are not nearly as smart as they claim to be, (i.e. “the smartest man in the room”) their behavior was calculated to cause as much economic pain as possible, they are just plain stupid or all of the above.

Every day there is a new message from Obama about how important it is for the Congress to act quickly to approve this or that. Right, the Congress acted quickly and has blown away two trillion dollars in the last ninety days, three trillion since last summer, with more to come. On that note, Obama’s recent attempt to portray himself as a “fiscal conservative” by demanding cuts amounting to a hundred million dollars from his four trillion dollar plus, budget request is laughable. One has to grant him “audacity” for believing that taxpaying Americans are so stupid that they do not notice or make the connection that a hundred million dollars is a drop in the bucket in to his trillion dollar plus budget request. Keep in mind that the four trillion is in addition to a trillion last summer, and roughly two trillion since January ‘09.

In an earlier essay I stated that the way Obama would keep his promise to cut the budget in half by the end of his administration in four years would be exactly what he is doing. First, he presents budgets that are huge in relation to the previous Administration’s, then in four years he cuts it in half and, “voila!” he is left with a net increase of a hundred percent from the previous administration’s budget and the onerous taxes that go with it, but he cut his budget in half. Great sleight of hand, all the while people who voted for this nonsense are drinking his “cool aid” like thirsty camels.

Enemies may actually back off now because they are smart enough to observe that Obama is doing their work for them with the support of the leftist media and too many Americans so drunk with Obama-worship that they do not notice that he is systematically dismantling the greatest economy in the history of the world to make the US more like his father’s dreams for Kenya. In the event readers do not recall, that was to levy 100% taxes, with the government determining distribution. Barry, ole buddy, the US did not become the preeminent economic power by “spreading the wealth around” socialist style.

For those who haven’t paid attention up to this point: Obama sees the world through the prism of his radical associations, such as racist Pastor, Jeremiah Wright, terrorist Bill Ayers, socialist demigods from his classroom days, to the thugs that make up Chicago politics. This was the environment and the actors who cultivated and nurtured his hate-white-America attitude. That distorted vision is now being played out by his regime fueled by his personal demons and past associations. Obama’s demons are reflected in his approach to foreign policy, economic issues, international relations, domestic policies, social and moral issues.

Obama is an unmitigated racist with a socialist agenda (read his book) who promised during his campaign that he would totally change the economic system, and at the moment he is fully engaged in doing so. Examples are plentiful and evident: Government takeover of the banking system; takeover of GM; takeover of the health industry; takeover of AIG the insurance giant, and overreaching into States’ sovereignty as stipulated by the 9th and 10th Amendments to the US Constitution; which ironically Obama is sworn to uphold.

For my friends on the left, take a look at every major city in the US, most if not all are run by Democrats, and you will observe a microcosm of the socialist end result. They are individual and collective disasters with crime rates, social and economic issues out of control. Consider the “Golden State” where socialist policies and spending have decimated its economy. Take a look at any socialist country and if you have the least amount of integrity remaining, you will be forced to agree that socialism has not served the people well with the exception of their elites.

Rational people, whether Democrat, Republican or independent, should be on guard against the leftist lunatics who have taken over the asylum. Sign on to the freedom movement and stop Obama’s socialist train before you are swept aboard for the ride to a Gulag in Venezuela, Cuba or some other “spread the wealth around” garden spot.

Despite these attempts to make the “movement” appear organic, the principle organizers of the local events are actually the lobbyist-run think tanks Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Works. The two groups are heavily staffed and well funded, and are providing all the logistical and public relations work necessary for planning coast-to-coast protests:

– Freedom Works staffers coordinate conference calls among protesters, contacting conservative activists to give them “sign ideas, sample press releases, and a map of events around the country.”

– Freedom Works staffers apparently moved to “take over” the planning of local events in Florida.

– Freedom Works provides how-to guides for delivering a “clear message” to the public and media.

– Freedom Works has several domain addresses — some of them made to look like they were set up by amateurs — to promote the protests.

– Americans for Prosperity is writing press releases and planning the events in New Jersey, Arizona, New Hampshire, Missouri, Kansas, and several other states.

This type of corporate ‘astroturfing‘ is nothing new to either organization. While working to promote Social Security privatization, Freedom Works was caught planting one of its operatives as a “single mom” to ask questions to President Bush in a town hall on the subject. Last year, the Wall Street Journal exposed Freedom Works for similarly building “amateur-looking” websites to promote the lobbying interests of Dick Armey, the former Republican Majority Leader who now leads Freedom Works and is a lobbyist for the firm DLA Piper.

Americans for Prosperity is run by Tim Phillips, who was Ralph Reed’s former partner in the lobbying firm Century Strategies. The group is funded by Koch family foundations — a family whose wealth is derived from the oil industry. Indeed Americans for Prosperity has coordinated pro-drilling ‘grassroots‘ events around the country.

There are problems on both sides that have allowed for the monopolization of big business. The Repulicans and the Democrats have both assisted in the demise of freedom and the liberty of choice.

Here is the deal. If both sides cannot get together and protect the basic freedoms and liberties that this country was built on we are all screwed. Big business cannot operate without the support of the people that hold it up. It takes all the little ones to keep the big ones operational. It takes the big ones with the dreams and ability to get the ball rolling for the little ones can keep an operation operational. Together they support one another. It is a balancing act and congress has not balanced their budget. Who cares who did what, when or how at this point. It still falls on the shoulders of whoever is in charge today, right now.

Hundred of thousands of jobs are disappearing each day. The banks are still running free and loose and they are now doing it on the tax payer dime. Heck many think they are going to get another bailout and some in congress are talking like they are going to give them another bailout.

Has anyone thought to put the safe guards of the Glass Steagall Act or at least a portion of it back in place? Or is everyone going to keep up their political posturing so they can stay in those cushy positions that they have designed for themselves?

Does everyone just want to point fingers? Or do people really care enough about one another to take a stand and say enough let's all get together and figure this out so everyone can enjoy the fruits of their labors?

Hmmm...

"They had five Iraqi men, one per cell and they had hoods on them, the bags over their heads and they had tie binds on their hands behind them and they were making them sit in the middle of the floor. You know, for the six hours they wanted them to sit in the middle of that floor, you know? And so we were sitting there and it was running through my mind, 'Why are we doing this? Why are we doing this?,'" says Brokaw.

"Well afterwards, after my shift was over, I was outside of our billeting area and Colonel Pappas and Lt. Colonel Jordan and two or three other officers were in a gaggle there talking and I overheard them talking about how they you know, they says well we'll keep these guys hidden until they leave, til the Red Cross leaves you know. So I figured, 'Oh, they're hiding them from the Red Cross,'" says Brokaw.

"And then some woman, I think it might have been Captain Wood, but I'm not sure, she was saying, 'Well, won't they wonder where they're at if they see their name on the list?,'" says Brokaw. "They said, 'Well these guys aren't on a list. These are nobodies. They're ghosts' or something like that."

Abu Ghraib interrogator tells his story

More excerpts from the article:

Almost immediately Brokaw had a dilemma. Most of the prisoners appeared to him to be average Iraqis picked up for petty crimes or for being in the wrong place at the wrong time - not terrorists. No matter how much he questioned them, they didn't seem to have any useful information. Brokaw believed them, but he says his superiors didn't. Suicide bombings were becoming an everyday occurrence in Iraq and U.S. military leaders wanted interrogators at Abu Ghraib to find who was responsible.

"A lot of pressure. Oh definitely," says Brokaw. "Our fellow soldiers are dying. We've got to prevent this you know. So let's just go to the nth degree to get this information to prevent people from getting killed."

Brokaw says his bosses didn't define "the nth degree". But it was clear that they wanted him to push detainees much harder to get information.

"I had a couple people tell me that I was too soft on the prisoners and that I should toughen up my technique. But you know you get a lot of bad information when you torture people because they'll say anything they can to get away from the pains," he says.

Brokaw ignored the suggestions - confident in his 27 years of military experience and his training in prisoner rules under the Geneva Convention. But he believes many of his colleagues gave in to the pressure. Brokaw recalls meeting one Iraqi prisoner who had obviously been roughed up before he even got to his interrogation.

Says Brokaw, "The prisoner was very skittish, very uptight, 'cause every time I'd just adjust myself in my seat he'd flinch. And he said, 'You're gonna hit me.' And I told him 'No. I'm not going to hit you.' I says, 'Why do you say that?' And he said, 'Well the other guy was beatin' me.' And then he opened his shirt and had a bunch of bruises all over his torso."

Brokaw asked the prisoner to identify the person who beat him. He pointed to a man dressed in civilian clothes. That meant he was either contracted by the U.S. government or he worked for the FBI or the CIA. Brokaw reported the incident to his superiors.

"Well, first I told the sergeant there and he just kind of smiled and said, 'Oh, you know Iraqis are all liars,'" says Brokaw. "And then when I reported it to the warrant officer, he just kind of, just 'Oh, yeah, yeah, we'll look into it' and continued on with what he was doing and never did anything."

On another occasion, Brokaw says he witnessed a military police officer abusing a kid at the prison who didn't raise his arms properly during a search.

Says Brokaw, "He had his hands maybe a couple inches below horizontal and the M.P. just went berserk on him and just flipped him on the ground and smashed his head in the ground in the dirt and was screaming all kinds of epithets at him and he did this right in front of me. I mean I was like three feet away when he was doing this and I said 'Hey, what did he do?' 'He didn't put his hands up like he was supposed to.' And I says, 'I saw him put his hands up.' 'Yeah, it wasn't high enough.' So I reported to a sergeant in my office and he said, 'Oh, it's an M.P. problem. Let them deal with it.'"
