Corpus Christi Judge Tells Defendant, 'You Don't Spank Children'

Rosalina Gonzales of Corpus Christi, Texas, was arrested and ultimately convicted of something parents do every day in the United States, which is spanking her child in order to discipline her. Indeed, what she did is legal in Texas.

Nevertheless, Judge Jose Longoria decided that what Gonzales did was a crime and that, in effect, spanking is a crime, albeit under the legal definition of "injury to a child." For that she has been forced to pay $50 to a child advocacy center, been placed on five years' probation, is being compelled to take parenting classes and has lost, at least for the time being, custody of her children.

is this a joke? Controlled discipline is effective at molding men and women of character. Just look at me, I was whacked when I was little and I hate my parents, hate my family, but am financially successful and on my own.
