Port Royal is a town on the southern coast of Jamaica. Founded by the Spanish in 1494, it was the largest city in the Caribbean and became the shipping and commercial center of the Caribbean in the second half of the 17th century. However, an earthquake and resulting tsunami brought the Jamaican city to its end, submerging it beneath the sea in 1692.
