Corporate Liberals cant keep there hands to themselves. Always looking to the government for a handout. This time its in the form of a penis pump. Touted as erectile dysfunction treatment and running on fox tv late night commercials. No price is given, but I bet it costs a hell of a lot more then the one you can get at your porn store for 14.99.

Hey, and guess what folks! Its covered by medicare and 'requires no cost to you', also covered by most insurances.

While this is exceptionally blatant this sort of thing is very common in our economy. I bet the guy that owns this company says he deserves his money cause he 'earned it'.

I called these people this morning. This pump costs 165$ 150$ of crony capitalism in every purchase, but hey if you have medicaid its paid for! If you have insurance its 70% paid for!

Wake up people, you are being sold down the river one scam at a time!

What do all the Jesus loving neocons have to say about this!????

Who here can defend this?

RON PAUL CAUSE ITS ALL GOT TO GO!

why do you think its covered?

because it helps overall health to get your nut off.

Did you know that?

Did you ever notice that the markets which experience the highest inflation rates are those most controlled by government? Education, healthcare...costs through the roof compared to other industries. I thought government got involved in these businesses to keep costs down for the little guy. Guess not.

No! That is not true. Traditionally government control is LESS costs because they dont operate at a profit. Employees get paid better to.

Now when you take government money, and give it to private industry you can expect nothing then this sort of thing. Just like Halliburton charging 80$ to wash a duffel bag of laundry on cost plus contracts.

The American people are being sold down the river for crony capitalism. Now were mortgaging our children to continue to pay for it. Where does the insanity end??

The fact remains, where government meddles, prices skyrocket. Whether that is due to government waste and corruption or that of their crony partners matters little to those of us watching our tax dollars go down the drain. You cannot separate the cronyism/fascism from government meddling unless you're advocating COMPLETE government control...and we know how well that has worked in the past. The point is, when government meddles in business, we see the exact opposite effect from what the central planners claim to be their motivation for meddling. Unless you have magic beans in your pocket, your not going to force businesses to not take advantage of government handouts. Where does the insanity end? It ends when we limit government involvement in markets...just like the Constitution demands.

bullshit.

do you remember the cost hikes in the insurance market before this took effect?

bullshit.

do you remember the cost hikes in the insurance market before this took effect?

Are you suggesting government does not meddle in insurance markets...or are you simply supporting my point...because you're right, insurance, just like healthcare and education, is yet another market in which a ton of government meddling takes place. And guess what? Insurance costs have rising far faster than the rate of inflation. Amazing isn't it?

Should the government start subsidizing whores then???

My business helps Legitimate Medicare providers 18,000 times a day find out if their patients are eligible for Medicare and as a result I have a very good awareness of Medicare and would like to share some FACTS people don't know regarding Medicare and finances.

1) I have access to a database of any hospital you might be interested in as to what Medicare PAYS for outpatient claims.
(Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MEDPAR))
For example a Florida hospital Bay Medical
sent 1,557 claims each @ $2,821 marked up of 3,716% from $78!
WHY because of EMTALA... Look it up and see what "good intentions" by Congress in 1986 CAUSED this in some cases 6,000% mark up!

2) Medicare does NOT process ONE of the 1 billion yearly claims!
9 "for profit companies--most Blue Cross companies process the claims!

3) Medicare/private Insurance PAY for the $600 billion in defensive medicine
and therefore WE all pay for it!

4) Insurance companies pays out of premiums over 80% just in claims!
Absolutely LIES about lavish executive pays and HIGH (4%???)
greedy profits by health insurance companies!

These and other totally inaccurate assumptions made by general public are atrocious and sadly the basis for BAD decisions.. i.e. OBAMACARE!

You need to do some actual-research.....for a Change.

BILL MOYERS: Why is public insurance, a public option, so fiercely opposed by the industry?

WENDELL POTTER: The industry doesn't want to have any competitor. In fact, over the course of the last few years, has been shrinking the number of competitors through a lot of acquisitions and mergers. So first of all, they don't want any more competition period. They certainly don't want it from a government plan that might be operating more efficiently than they are, that they operate. The Medicare program that we have here is a government-run program that has administrative expenses that are like three percent or so.

BILL MOYERS: Compared to the industry's--

WENDELL POTTER: They spend about 20 cents of every premium dollar on overhead, which is administrative expense or profit. So they don't want to compete against a more efficient competitor.

BILL MOYERS: You told Congress that the industry has hijacked our health care system and turned it into a giant ATM for Wall Street. You said, "I saw how they confuse their customers and dump the sick, all so they can satisfy their Wall Street investors." How do they satisfy their Wall Street investors?

WENDELL POTTER: Well, there's a measure of profitability that investors look to, and it's called a medical loss ratio. And it's unique to the health insurance industry. And by medical loss ratio, I mean that it's a measure that tells investors or anyone else how much of a premium dollar is used by the insurance company to actually pay medical claims. And that has been shrinking, over the years, since the industry's been dominated by, or become dominated by for-profit insurance companies. Back in the early '90s, or back during the time that the Clinton plan was being debated, 95 cents out of every dollar was sent, you know, on average was used by the insurance companies to pay claims. Last year, it was down to just slightly above 80 percent.

So, investors want that to keep shrinking. And if they see that an insurance company has not done what they think meets their expectations with the medical loss ratio, they'll punish them. Investors will start leaving in droves.

I've seen a company stock price fall 20 percent in a single day, when it did not meet Wall Street's expectations with this medical loss ratio.

For example, if one company's medical loss ratio was 77.9 percent, for example, in one quarter, and the next quarter, it was 78.2 percent. It seems like a small movement. But investors will think that's ridiculous. And it's horrible.

BILL MOYERS: That they're spending more money for medical claims.

WENDELL POTTER: Yeah.

BILL MOYERS: And less money on profits?

WENDELL POTTER: Exactly. And they think that this company has not done a good job of managing medical expenses. It has not denied enough claims. It has not kicked enough people off the rolls. And that's what-- that is what happens, what these companies do, to make sure that they satisfy Wall Street's expectations with the medical loss ratio."

There are some very serious cost issues in delivering healthcare that should be addressed. Medicare coverage of Penis pumps is certainly not one of them. This is simply a distraction form the real issues. Treatment of chronic diseases account for 75% of all healthcare cost. 15 diseases account for half of our healthcare costs. Reduction in the cost of treating these diseases will have a major impact on the nation's healthcare bill. We spend far too much effort arguing over who should bear the cost rather than looking at what those costs are and how they can be reduced.
