The UN general assembly has overwhelmingly approved a resolution calling on Israel to open its nuclear programme for inspection.

The resolution, approved by a vote of 174 to six with six abstentions, calls on Israel to join the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) "without further delay" and open its nuclear facilities to inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Those voting against were Israel, the US, Canada, Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau.

This is probably more true than not. Israel is not a fanatical or basic evil country. My father's generation allowed Israel to emerge as a nation. It may have been a mistake. Heaven knows, there are enough mistakes on this issue to splash everyone. But at the end of the day, it is here. And with it here, what brings peace?

There is no question, that to maintain the peace, both sides (Israeli and Palestinian) must be reigned-in a bit; both must negotiate and both must be willing to make concessions.

From a practical standpoint, it is not unreasonable for Israel to assume a defensive posture with every other nation in the Middle East, much of North Africa, and in some small measure - Turkey. Clearly, Israel has no real allies in the Persian Gulf.

It may not be possible to reach a peace when the nearly the entire group of Middle Eastern governments seem to support Palestinian attempt to appear as if they are negotiating in good faith, but (if effect) making unreasonable demands to sabotage the peace process.

Peace will come to the Middle East when the Arab World supports it. The Arab world is not ready for peace yet.
