Contrary To GOP Promises Keystone XL Pipeline Will Only Create 35 Permanent Jobs

Republicans and conservative Democrats have continuously pushed for this pipeline’s approval is due to the huge windfall it will create for oil companies, specifically the Koch Bros. A report completed last year shows that the Kochs stand to make $100 billion from the passage of the Keystone extension. That’s billion, not million.

Republicans can’t just go to the people and say that we need to make sure insanely rich billionaires need to be given an opportunity to become even more insanely wealthy, environmental impacts be damned. Of course not. Therefore, they need to go out and claim that the project will create tons of jobs, help the country’s economy and fulfill its energy needs. Or, in other words, lie. Lie through their teeth.

Fox News host: Keystone pipeline would create 'tens of thousands of jobs'

As far as new jobs go, the State Department estimates the operation of the pipeline will only create 35 permanent, full-time jobs and 15 temporary contractors. The full-time workers would be "required for annual operations, including routine inspections, maintenance and repair." Some would work in a Nebraska field office.

The lack of many full-time positions makes sense, given that the project is to build a pipeline so that tar sands can travel without the need of rail cars or ships.

Well, there you have it. Maybe we are "misunderestimating" Republicans. Maybe they mean 35 permanent jobs and tens of thousands of jobs cleaning up the fucking mess.

Another huge GOP disaster looms on the horizon. Will this country never learn?

Van Jones????

LOLz

Dean, you fucking dope! That's hilarious!!!

This sounds far more like one of those "green" windfarm projects that are supposed to create hundreds of jobs but then only create 10. What's wrong deanie, it's OK if it's a windmill that slaughters birds but not if it's a pipeline? You must have stock in Buffets company which is why you don't want the competition.

rdean is another left wing idiot who doesn't understand that the very nature of construction work is temporary.

And this pipeline will create thousands of jobs. Welders in Oklahoma for example have made out like bandits on that part of the pipeline. They averaged $134,000. for their "temporary construction job".

Cripes I just can't believe that liberals can be this freaking stupid!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually that number comes from the State Department.

And this is not new information.

During the construction phase is where the jobs are. And we're talking individuals making excellent wages. Skilled and unskilled labor alike.

Construction jobs by their very nature are temporary.

Here's what your State Department forecast for the construction phase.

"Keystone XL is the definition of shovel-ready infrastructure project. Almost overnight, Keystone XL could put 9,000 hard-working American men and women directly to work.

The U.S. State Department’s Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (PDF, 4 MB) found that the project would support more than 42,000 direct and indirect jobs nationwide. "

Why is the far left against jobs being created?

I like the idea of thousands or millions of jobs. 35 just aren't enough.

How many permanent jobs are created building a bridge or paving a road?

Answer: 0

Yet, Democrats are orgasmic over infrastructure spending!

However, when this type of infrastructure spending is available, Democrats think it's "bad."

Thanks, rdean, for another fabulous rdean thread!

How's this kinda money for welders in Oklahoma? Do you want to deny your fellow Americans getting over $100,000. for what you idiots call a temporary job?

Gulf Coast Pipeline Construction Creates Hundreds Of Jobs For Local Union

From the article:

The company is building the $2.3 billion Gulf Coast Pipeline from the Cushing hub to Nederland, Texas.

Goulet said the project created 4,000 jobs, including 339 pipefitters and welders from Local 798.

"They're productive and we appreciate the support they provide, not only to the project, but what they provide for the permitting process for future projects," he said.

Goulet said the Gulf Coast pipeline's success should help TransCanada get approval for the Keystone XL pipeline. It will go from Nebraska to Canada.

Union leaders say these projects provide jobs and stability for hundreds of people. For example, they say, their members who worked on the Gulf Coast Pipeline earned, on average, $134,000 per person.

"Which means they've got healthcare for another year, they've got a pension credit for when they retire," said Danny Hendrix, with the Local 798. "It means that those families have got healthcare, dental care--so it means a lot. It means they can make a house payment, it means they can send their kids to college."

Hendrix hopes these welders in training are next in line for similar paychecks.

It's crazy Toro. I had a poster arguing with me in another thread that you can't class construction work as a "real job" because it's temporary.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgh! Tell that to all the good men and women who work these jobs eh?

ETA: Threads like this really truly prove that the far left have no clue as to how the real world works.

Hey TD

The title says permanent jobs.

Comprends?

The pipes are imported from India and the CEO of Keystone said what? 50 permanent jobs. Real winner you got there Repubs

TransCanada CEO says 42 000 Keystone XL pipeline jobs are ongoing enduring PunditFact
Girling conceded that actual operating jobs top out at 50, but he said "that doesn’t include all of the other jobs that come with it." Referring to the same State Department report that Raddatz mentioned, Girling highlighted its finding for the project’s support of 42,000 "direct and indirect" jobs.

"For about two years," Raddatz cut in.

"No," Girling said, "the 42,000 jobs is in ongoing, enduring jobs."

Girling made it sound like the State Department’s estimate pertained to permanent -- or at least long-term -- jobs with his description of them as "ongoing, enduring."

But that is an inaccurate way to evaluate these job creation estimates.
