PRINCETON, NJ -- The U.S. unemployment rate, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, is 9.0% in mid-February, up from 8.6% for January. The mid-month reading normally reflects what the U.S. government reports for the entire month, and is up from 8.3% in mid-January.

Obama policies still a failure. "Winter of recovery" another in a long line of economic nonperformance events.

A... already a thread or two on this.

B... the Gallup numbers, while they do generally reflect close to what the BLS numbers will be, is still not seasonally adjusted, so there could still be a difference between the BLS numbers and this.

With Gallup at 9.0, I'm thinking BLS numbers in mid-March will be about 8.8

so will this be every lead story on MSNBC? including the evening line up of those racist bigots from Chrissy to Lawrence O'Gerbil?

The real telling number is the one showing Americans actually EMployed. It is the lowest in many years. It is hard to manipulate that number.

Oops...sorry...should have looked around...

Sadly, I didnt think the decrease would last long. And im sure it will be higher with this gas price spike.

We cant fix our economy while ignoring the problem and spending money we dont have on political cronies.

Sure, that is the root of all our problems. Please change the broken record.

We need a policy change.

Obama has tried boosting the economy his way ..it hasn't and isn't working.

Gallup has been right on with the numbers I have seen so far...8.3 and 8.6 .

» CBO: Real Unemployment Is 15 Percent - Big Government

"The Congressional Budget Office released a report Thursday that showed real unemployment in America at 15 percent for the month of January, a figure considerably higher than the White House’s oft-cited 8.3 percent figure that does not include part-time workers seeking full-time work or those who have given up hope of finding a job altogether.

Furthermore, the CBO reported that the “United States is experiencing the longest stretch of high unemployment since the Great Depression” with no end in sight through 2014.

Worse, the CBO reports that the ravages of the Obama Economy have created an unprecedentedly high rate of long-term unemployment, which the CBO defines as a person who has been seeking work for over 26 months."

Funny how CON$ never cited Gallup, CBO or underemployment during Bush's two failed terms!!! Back then the lowest BLS number was gospel.

There's no such thing as the "real" unemployment numbers.

There's U-3, and there's U-6. Neither one is more "real" than the other.

Comparing the two is intellectually dishonest.

Personally, I never had a chance...the Liberals were on it like white on rice.

Now Ed...would you care to comment on Obama's failed policies?

Remember, if we pass Porkulus...unemployment would stay below 8.5%?

Time magazine article from July 2009:
The $787 billion stimulus plan is turning out to be far less stimulating than its architects expected.

Back in early January, when Barack Obama was still President-elect, two of his chief economic advisers — leading proponents of a stimulus bill — predicted that the passage of a large economic-aid package would boost the economy and keep the unemployment rate below 8%.

It hasn't quite worked out that way. Last month [June 2009], the jobless rate in the U.S. hit 9.5%, the highest level it has reached since 1983.

Read more: Barack Obama's Stimulus Plan: Failing by Its Own Measure - TIME
Almost three years later and the unemployment is point five (0.5) percent lower than it was six months after Obama took office, and two (2.0) point higher than when he won the presidency.

An economic policy failure of epic proportions.
