When disaster strikes; American tradition is to set aside party politics. When our citizens are in danger we are ALL just Americans.

HOW do we measure a leader? Shouldn't it be performance & competence?

Bush supporters talk how tough he is....Bush gets NOTHING done!

LBJ WAS tough, AND he got things done!

LBJ and Bush BOTH faced National disasters.
Hurricane Betsy-1965 and Katrina-2005

LBJ was decisive, Bush was detached. The people that call Bush incompetent are NOT "libs", "Dems" or Bush haters. They're people that KNOW him and WORKED for him.

A President that blames others and offers names is NOT a leader. He's a COWARD!!!

President Lyndon Baines Johnson took Hurricane Betsy personally. HE used the power entrusted to him by the people, his strong leadership and he got things done.

In the first hours, LBJ called 20 government agencies: Corps of Engineers, Veterans Administration, Food and Drug Administration, Agricultural Department, Small Business Administration, all the services: Army, Navy, Air Force, the National Command Center, Department of Agriculture, Interior, Maritime, Housing and Home Finance, Bureau of Yards and Docks and Navy, Federal Communications, Federal Aviation, Bureau of Public Roads, Treasury, Commerce, and Interstate Commerce Commission.

5 hours later LBJ, the President of the United States, was in New Orleans running the rescue effort!

LBJ anticipated ALL the problems Bush blames on others!

Before boarding Air Force One LBJ had a phone conversation with Robert Phillips the 1965 version of Michael Brown. LBJ didn't WAIT to see what Phillips would do...

LBJ TOLD Phillips WHAT to do and HOW to do it:

White House Transcript excerpt:
LBJ: "we've got to cut out all the red tape. We've got to work around the clock. We've got to ignore hours. We've got to bear in mind that we exist for only one purpose and that's to the greatest good for the greatest number. And the people who've lost their homes, people who have lost their furniture, the people who have lost some of their crops and even their families are not going to be very interested in any individual differences between federal or state or local agencies."

LBJ GOT THINGS DONE! AND; You didn't say NO to LBJ!

Phillips wasn't hoping for "Bobby, you're doing a heck of a job." Phillips was PRAYING HIS nuts wouldn't end up flying from the White House flagpole!!!

EXCUSES are for people that CAN'T get things done. WE CAN'T tolerate that in a President.

I can't believe how many Americans' still defend this TOTAL failure of a President. They are even willing to TRUST him to protect their God given liberties. Trust a man that referred to US Constitution, the document he swore under oath to preserve, protect and defend as just a goddamn piece of paper!!!

so are you going to be honest and call obama a coward for continually blaming bush for the economic mess? are you going to call all libs and dems cowards for blaming bush and the republicans?

i can't imagine why so many libs are still obsessed with bush....must be desperately trying to distract from obama's failings

Let me know when Geithner finds out where it was in that "goddamn piece of paper" that it's ok to bail people out, as he has.

Hold it--you do know that the constitution serves three purposes

1) sets up the government(our Republic)
2)List certain inalienable(and a clause for the protection of rights not listed)
3) A process to ammend the constitution to add, or take away, rights of the people or power assigned in the constitution(just got through talking about Prohibition--yep, the right to drink Booze!! found under the 9th amendment!! CHEERS!)

In other words, the constitution only forms an outline on how to govern. The question of whether we can bail out individuals or corporations is not even addressed as a constituitional issue!!

What a crock of shit.

Hurricane Betsy, LBJ and the Dixiecrats: The Politics of New Orleans Flooding

On top of that, Betsy wasn't even close to as destructive as Katrina. And the amount of aid for Katrina victims was mind boggling in comparison to the aid for Betsy.

First, President Bush is no longer President. Only a complete moron would think he could get anything done when he no longer has any power.

Second, LBJ was one of the worst Presidents we had. There was a reason I didnt run a second term. He was one of the main reasons we were in Vietnam. He was the one who started the major push that are nations on to bankrupcy.

If you want to praise that go ahead. President Bush wasnt perfect. He wasnt as bad as the liberals like to pretend either. What makes me laugh so much is that all of the bad things President Bush did, Obama is doing 10 times more. Its hilarious watching you guys defend a man for doing worse than the man you hated did.

lbj = vietnam

bush = iraq

lets call it a draw......oh an no more texans in the white house....they keep trying to relive the alamo......

I think the voters are still quite consious of the fact that this economy did not go sour the moment Obama was elected. Their votes in the last two election more that show just who they blame.

Blame for Downturn Not Fixed on Obama
6 in 10 Back His Handling of Economy

By Jon Cohen and Dan Balz
Washington Post Staff Writers
Tuesday, March 31, 2009; Page A01

The findings suggest that the public continues to give Obama considerable latitude as he attempts to jump-start the economy, but public patience may be limited. The coming debate over his budget, where he faces both Democratic and Republican resistance to some of his major priorities, should produce a more definitive first-year judgment on his economic program and his presidency. Clinton's ratings fell his first summer in office as he pushed through a budget and economic plan over solid Republican opposition.

The telephone poll of 1,000 randomly selected adults was conducted from Thursday through Sunday. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.

When it comes to assessing responsibility for the nation's economic plight, 80 percent said they put a "great deal" or a "good amount" of blame on banks and other financial institutions for taking unnecessary risks. The same percentage said they blame large corporations for poor management decisions. About seven in 10 blame consumers for overextending themselves with debt and the Bush administration for not vigorously regulating the financial industry.

Criticism of the banks, large corporations and consumers is roughly comparable across the political spectrum. But there is clear disagreement over whether Obama bears any of the blame, with Republicans far more likely to say yes than are Democrats or independents. Republicans, however, were as apt to blame the Bush administration for lax regulation as they were to target Obama for not doing enough to fix the problems.

Obama maintains a strong hand in his dealings with congressional Republicans. The public prefers his approach to that of the Republicans by more than two to one. But the percentage of independents siding with Obama has dropped 12 points, to 50 percent. Many of those independents in the new poll said neither has the upper hand in the economic debate. About a quarter of independents align with the Republicans on this question.

No, the Constitution gives explicit powers to the federal government, and only those powers are legitimate. Anything else is unconstitutional and an illegal grab of power by the federal government. However, since the federal government has given itself a monopoly over the power to deem something unconstitutional they are now allowed to essentially do what they please.

No the economy just went south when it became apparant he was going to win.
