There have been two completely different Americas in U.S. history. Let’s examine twelve ways in which they differ.

1. For more than a century after the United States came into existence, there was no income taxation or IRS. People were free to keep everything they earned and decide for themselves what to do with it.

Today, income taxation and the IRS are a core feature of American life. The government essentially owns everyone’s income and decides how much people will be permitted to keep, much as a parent permits his children to have an allowance.

it's nothing new that we have always been divided but the article points out some distinct differences between the founding and now.

The division is between those who believe that there is an absolute reality, including absolute truth and absolute morality, and those who think everything is relative.

Number 2. Times have changed. Average life span used to be like 45 in 1910. People worked until they died of something. Modern medicine has doubled our lifespan in just a few decades. Since nobody wants to work when they're 80 the gov't had to do something to provide income for these people while they were alive but retired.

Orwell said it best:

"2 + 2 = 5"

Once you accept that, you will accept anything.

It’s sad how far we have fallen. A once great nation destroyed by too much government. Old story.

Depends on who you ask, what great period have we fallen from?

With all that in mind, would you rather live now than, say, 150 years ago, in 1870?

Ah, scrap that, you'd probably be dead for decades, given your age, and, even if you were lucky enough still to be alive, you probably couldn't read that harebrained text you quoted, much less reply to, or promulgate it.

I did.

It would be great to return to an America that didn't have those 12 items.

Real Liberty. Fuck big government. It has really fucked up this country.

The USA has evolved to where we are now. It's as simple as that. Anything that won't evolve goes extinct.

I often think I was born too late. Probably be is pretty vague- my age has granted me the opportunity to see things you never will and comment on them objectively as opposed to insulting myself in public- like most message board posters have a propensity to do.
