Getting rid of Matt Millen is what was necessary, one of the dumbest hires in NFL history (he had zero player development or front office experience) and then the year to year idiocy of keeping him.

Since firing him, the team went 0-16 with all his players in 2008 and has at least had hope or been vastly improving since.

Getting rid of Matt Millen is what was necessary, one of the dumbest hires in NFL history (he had zero player development or front office experience) and then the year to year idiocy of keeping him.

Dead on it. Millen was terrible as CEO of Lions.
But in his defense and as someone that played defense, Matt was a helluva ILB and MLB in the pros having won 3 Super Bowls with 3 teams. Even harder that he was a converted All American DE from Penn State.
Those linebackers take a lot gap responsibilities moving forward and that does whacky on the brain having to shed low flying missle full backs, inside trapping 6'7" 330lb O Lineman and pile making players on the same team BEFORE finding the running back.

I know many of those guys that have more than a loose screw after that many years between the lines.
