Wow you take his tweet out of context how shocking. Before the income tax (1912), tariffs were how the country was run. That is what he was referring to. And tariffs are a tool. he doesn't want to have tariffs, but if other countries do, we have to. And it's getting us results. Short term pain (although the pain isn't that bad) for long term gain (being able to export tons more things is gonna really help our economy.

If our debt hits between $27-30T, we can no longer field a military or provide a social safety net. The majority of revenues would have to go to debt interest and unfunded liabilities. The panic would start at $27T and collapse at $30T and that is imminent (2025) if not reversed. Of course we could always default on the debt, declare the United States of America no longer exists, and break up into 5 regional countries which would be debt-free and able to create a common currency and unrestricted travel. Then when our Treasury-holders had all either died off or given up on collecting what they were owed, we could reunite as the United States and swear to God we'd never let another stinking socialist anywhere near a public office.

I believe they held that, ideally, all men are equal. I see nothing in there about all nations being equal. Tariffs are between nations, not individuals.
