TV under scrutiny after Kyle cancellation

The welfare of guests on TV shows is to be scrutinised by MPs and regulators in the wake of the death of a man who appeared on The Jeremy Kyle Show.

ITV has cancelled the daytime programme following the death of Steve Dymond.

The House of Commons media select committee is to investigate whether TV companies give guests enough support.

And media regulator Ofcom is examining whether to update its own code of conduct to protect people taking part in reality and factual shows.

It is "vital" that participants are properly looked after, Ofcom said.

"We're examining whether more can be done to safeguard the welfare of those people, similar to the duty of care we have in the broadcasting code to protect under-18s," a spokesperson said.

A young man killed himself after appearing on the show where he failed a lie detector test. Kyles show is a brutal and unedifying spectacle where the underclass taunt each other for our entertainment.

"On todays show Darren from Leeds wants to find out if he is the Father of Leannes baby"

And thats it really. We watch white trash implode every day and very little thought seems to be given to their well being.
And now the party seems to be over. There seems to be a realisation that these people actually count.

A few weeks ago a contestant on a show called Love Island also killed himself. This is a show where good looking youngsters are taken to a tropical island and encouraged to fuck each other.

It now looks like these shows are coming to an end as the bodies pile up. Not too soon either.

I would assume that after 11 years, people would kind of know what they are getting into when they go on shows like that. Either way, your side of the great waters has a much looser relationship with freedom of speech so nothing would surprise me.

The issue is that the TV companies should have a better idea of the pressures involved and organise appropriately.

Sounds like the British version of the Maury Povich show. Marketed to appeal to dumb, liberal women who like trashy gossip.

You're such an elitist snot, Tommy. Typical Leftist, always thinking you're better than everyone else.

Dumb insular fuck.

Sounds like the British version of the Maury Povich show. Marketed to appeal to dumb, liberal women who like trashy gossip.
Jerry Springer comes to mind. Most of the female guests have tattoos on their necks and faces.

Springer is a good program, which covers a lot of issues that other talk shows are unwilling to tackle.

I learned about the Midget Klan from Springer, who BTW is a liberal too.

The Midget Klan -they insist on the "midget" label and they feel "little people" and "dwarfs" are slurs- are very similar to the traditional Ku Klux Klan, except for 2 differences. The Midget Klan hates everyone the KKK hates, but they also hate normal sized people. In addition, they wear black sheets instead of the white ones worn by the Classic Klan.

Very interesting and dangerous group, everyone who was in the barroom watching it had concern.

This is the sort of 'entertainment' encouraged by left wing media, since it the very reasons lil Tommy claims to abhor are great for helping destroy traditions and common decency, great kulturekampf stuff. Tommy is just being sarcastic here; he actually loves this stuff.

Wow. Kyle was never that bad. Its a programme that couldnt get made in the UK. No station would show it and no advertiser would back it. Springer would never work again either.

So they don't cover controversial topics and groups on Welsh TV? A lot of people here in America like to stay informed, and the stations are cool with it. If someone is offended by an interview of the Triple K or anyone else on TV, they are free to change the station. That's why conservatives don't push to have CNN and MSNBC off the air.

They cover all sorts of things. I cant see the "need to know" in this one though. The midgets were just rolled on for entertainment value, similar to bear baiting and other things we dont do any more.

But there is definitely a market in ridiculing people. One that is coming to an end in the UK.

The Ku Klux Klan isn't a very important group over in Wales, I don't think. But in America, they are considered very important. President Trump was mocked when he didn't know the name of the outfit's current leader, Dave Duke, who is a contributor for CNN.

"Entertainment value" is without a doubt a consideration, but there is also a lot of new value due to the concern that a lot of Americans have about the Triple K. Perhaps if you'll recall the huge white supremacist rallies in Charlottesville and Washington the past 2 years?

Probably a difference in cultures. I dont know of any rules preventing that sort of show, and Springer was a tv regular over here for years, but I cant see anyone making something like that. There are better ways of showing up extremists.
