Turkey Needs a Good Dressing Down

As His Arrogance continues to bungle diplomatic relations here and there in his 'learning on the job' program, we really do need to be paying attention to Turkey's increasingly cozy relationship with Iran and it's nuclear program coupled with the increasing divide developing between Turkey and Israel. As with all predominently Islamic states, Turkey could succumb to Islamic extremists at any time.

(CNSNews.com) – As the Obama administration scrambles to contain the diplomatic fallout with Turkey over the “Armenian genocide” resolution in the U.S. Congress, Turkey’s tilt towards Iran continues largely unnoticed.

Turkey’s “formerly Islamist” president, Abdullah Gul, in a weekend telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart called for a deepening of bilateral relations and voiced support for Iran in international forums. Turkey is non-permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, the most important international body to have Iran on its current agenda.

The encounter was virtually ignored by media outside of Turkey and Iran.

Turkey needs a dressing gown? Why? Can't they wait till Christmas and see if Santa brings them one... if they've been good all year.... they might get matching slippers.

it wasn't ignored at all. I heard it on CNN AND MSNBC and probably some others.

That's the problem with relying on those kinds of sites.

Especially with dishonest headlines like these:

On Anniversary of Cairo Speech, Obama Has Yet to Connect with American Muslims, Some Say

Some also say the government was behind 9/11, there is a world government in the works, we never landed on the moon, the earth is flat, and the most powerful people in the world are reptiles. However, that just doesn't simply make it so.

I typed in 'Turkey Dressing' and this popped-up. WTH?

I agree that most of the media did report it back in early March when it first emerged from committee, and I don't believe Pelosi has agreed to bring it to a vote. But it is still in the works and apparently Turkey knows it. And apparently it remains a really sore point with them and that isn't being noted by the media currently.

I should note, in Obama's favor, that he and Sec of State Clinton are opposing this legislation. I wonder if he will veto it if it should be brought to a vote and pass? The rumors are that this could happen before November.

In case anybody is tracking this bill it is HR 252.

What the media has recently noted, however, is this which isn't helping:

Israel Faces Deepening Tensions With Turkey Over Raid, and Bond With U.S. Frays
By MARK LANDLER
Published: June 4, 2010

WASHINGTON — Tensions deepened between Turkey and Israel on Friday, and a new fissure threatened to open between the United States and Israel, as the three countries continued to deal with the fallout from Israel’s deadly raid on a humanitarian aid flotilla off Gaza.

A senior Turkish diplomat warned that his country might sever diplomatic relations with Israel unless its government apologized for the attack, in which nine Turkish citizens were killed; consented to an international investigation; and lifted its blockade of Gaza.

“Israel is about to lose a friend; this is going to be a historical mistake,” said the diplomat, Namik Tan, Turkey’s ambassador to Washington. “The future of our relationship will be determined by Israel’s actions.”

Well while you children continue to attack the source you don't like rather than the information offered, I will suggest that it is these more 'obscure sources' that bring this stuff out into the open. They may not always get it right. They may not always mask their obvious bias, etc. But when we cannot depend on the so-called mainstream media to inform us of all the news, but rather they presume to handfeed us whatever they think makes their side look good and the other side bad. . . .

I''ll continue to use the more obscure sources to know what the news is out there. I don't presume to suggest they are interpreting or presenting it honestly or accurately. I am positive, however, that the mainstream media is not always trustworthy to present it honestly or accurately.

So here's another obscure source which, if correct, does give some backup and credence to the CNS report:

May 8, 2010 - 12:35 AMT 07:35 GMTPanARMENIAN.Net - In welcoming the support of U.S. Senator Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) with his cosponsorship of S.Res. 316, the Armenian Genocide resolution, the Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly) also renewed its call for passage of this bipartisan legislation by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

"We appreciate Senator Cardin's continued commitment to the cause of U.S. affirmation of the Armenian Genocide," stated Assembly Board Member Annie Totah. "Given the Turkish government's ongoing campaign of denial and recent threat to deport Armenians from Turkey, we strongly urge the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to adopt S.Res. 316 and help address the ongoing dangers of denial and its consequences," continued Totah. Senator Cardin's cosponsorship follows a recent meeting and letter in which Totah emphasized the importance of U.S. affirmation as part of the Assembly's increased outreach efforts during the 95th anniversary year of the Armenian Genocide.

S.Res. 316 was introduced by Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) along with Senator John Ensign (R-NV), and calls upon the President of the United States to properly characterize the Armenian Genocide in the President's annual April 24th statement. S.Res. 316 is currently pending before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. On March 4, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, led by Chairman Howard Berman (D-CA), adopted an identical measure, H.Res. 252, which was introduced by Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA).

So if it is accurate, would that not suggest that Turkey might still be upset by this? And Jillian, have you seen THIS on CNN and MSNBC?

Egypt activists denied Gaza entry

Gaza blockade not ending yet: Egypt prevents hundreds of activists carrying Palestinian flags, trucks carrying humanitarian aid from entering Strip via Rafah Crossing; meanwhile, Hamas says no Red Cross visits for Shalit

Egypt banned hundreds of activists from Gaza, igniting protests at the Rafah border that is the only non-Israeli entry into the Palestinian enclave, a security official said on Saturday.

Cairo says Rafah crossing to remain open for humanitarian aid, restricted travel. 'We are not going to let the occupying power escape from its responsibilities,' Foreign Ministry spokesman says. Nine parliamentarians cross into Strip to 'express support for residents'

Hundreds of Egyptian activists headed to the Rafah border crossing on Friday but were denied entry into the Gaza Strip, the official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

"They spent the night in front of the crossing asking to be let in and continued protesting on Saturday," the official said.

Carrying Palestinian flags, they chanted "Palestine is Arab," "Open the border," and "Lift the blockade," witnesses told AFP.

By Saturday afternoon, most of the activists had started making their way back to Cairo, the official said.

Authorities also denied entry to two trucks carrying humanitarian aid sent by the people of the Egyptian province of Daqahliya.

"Authorities forced the truck drivers to head back to the (north Sinai) town of El-Arish saying that the Rafah crossing was only for the passage of people not goods," one of the organizers, MP Mohsen Radi, said.

Blockade relief?
Amid the international outcry over an Israeli commando operation against a Gaza-bound aid flotilla which killed nine Turkish activists in international waters on June 1, Egypt announced it was opening its Rafah border crossing.

The surprise move has allowed some additional aid into Gaza but only some Palestinians, such as those seeking treatment or study abroad, are permitted to cross.

The Egyptian opposition has long campaigned against the government's refusal to fully open the Gaza border, even at the height of the deadly offensive which Israel launched against the territory in December 2008.

Opposition parties have accused the authorities of being complicit in the Israeli blockade through their construction of an underground barrier intended to prevent smugglers tunneling under the border.

Meanwhile, Hamas' Political Bureau Chief Khaled Mashaal said Saturday that the Gaza blockade should not be linked to the Gilad Shalit issue. The Hamas leader said that Shalit is just like the Palestinian prisoners held by Israel and rejected any possibility that a Red Cross delegation would be allowed to visit him.

Mashaal spoke at a Khartoum press conference, where a Hamas delegation is visiting at this time.
