My mother died an early death because she too was too proud to accept help. It hurt a lot of people beginning with her family.

Went through a similar thing with my dad. He had his reasons.

As far as I'm concern, people that praise people who refuse help and shame people for accepting it are the scum of the earth.

The guy is glued to Hannity and Rush, FoxNews and Trump. And it's killing him. How many other weak minded people like him that vote are out there are going through that. They are brain washed. And hurting and dying. The current Republican Party has no concience or shame. I once was a Republican Member back when it stood FOR the people instead of just for the 1% and no ignores the suffering of the 20% of the lower group completely. Yet, they somehow have brainwashed much of that lower 20% into believing that they are good for them. The Republican Party has become Evil Reincarnate. Yes, I am a RINO by your standards but what I really am is a REAL Republican. I am not afraid to pull the blue lever once in awhile when there is an evil Republican on the Ticket and there seems to be too many of those these days.

He is also in extreme pain and can barely stand erect. I mentioned to him about getting on Disability. He said that that was Obamacare and he would probably be dead by the time he got it. So he shows up for work in extreme pain and probably won't make it past 2 years due to really poor health.

For this guy, it's way past being reasonable. And he is way past being reasonable. There is no help out there for him because he refuses to accept the commie socialist help offered that is already paid for through taxes. He was promised help through the new insurance that is coming through his employer. Except he has pre conditions so it won't be covered. He just doesn't know it yet. And at 54 and in poor health, his premiums will be more than his pay so he won't be getting insurance anyway. But he was promised. At some point, he will have to be terminated from his job due to him no longer being able to do the tasks. So he gets sent home to die. Yes, that's a real good replacement for the ACA, isn't it. But he still won't accept ACA because it's Communist or Socialist and no good Republican would ever do that. Hannity said so.

The fact is people are shamed for accepting handouts from government. Until fairly recently kids on free and reduced lunch were identified in school cafeteria as the poor kids, taunted by classmates and pitied by teachers.
Today, many clinics assign Medicaid patients to PA's instead of doctors. In some places to get government benefits you have to prove you aren't a drug user. If you have no choice but to live on government assistance in America, then welfare scum will be a label you may well here often.

For years, the picture of a person on Welfare was the notorious "Welfare Queen" who lived a life of luxury at the expense of the tax payer.

I don't know of any Doctors that would work on him for free. I don't have the funding to allow him to move in with me and support him. And I have a feeling that he would not accept that anyway as he would see it as charity. Now, how would you help him other than give him a sounding board? Or would you join in on the rant and not cure a damned thing. Hell, just by my listening to him with only the advice of the programs open to him (he said it was all socialist programs and he wouldn't use them) I accomplished exactly the same thing you would have done by joining in with your "I Hate Obama, Spit on Floor" routine. Nothing got accomplished other than he felt a bit better venting.

There are places that treat people that don't have the money or the insurance. My little brother is a critical care nurse as is his wife and they volunteer two nights a week along with doctors that rotate to help. I would have offered to help pay for treatment by setting up a payment plan. There are options other than socialism and sucking off "da gubermint" teat that picks others pockets to pay for it while keeping a nice chunk of change for themselves disguised as "operating costs". Why not just admit that you are a closet commie and be done with it?

I am familiar with the clinics. Are you aware that some of their funding comes from grants from the Gummint? Without that they clinics would not exist? You just pointed him towards a "Socialist" organization. Imagine that. You can dress a pig up as cindirella but in the end, you still have a pig. If you take away the State, County and Federal Funding those facilities cannot exist. And you can come back and scream, liar, liar,liar all you want but those are the cold hard facts. BTW, I support those clinics and believe there should be more of them in existence.
