How much pain are you willing to take? China will take more
  • Data from the NFIB, America's largest small business association, showed that Main Street businesses are feeling the heat from Donald Trump's trade war with China.
  • Business optimism missed expectations, slipping 1.6 points to a five-month low of 103.1.
  • "Fewer owners said they expect better business conditions and real sales volumes in the coming months," NFIB said.
  • Uncertainty also grew in August, as Pantheon Macroeconomics said there had been a "downshift in business investment."

America's small businesses are starting to feel the heat from Trump's trade war, as new data on Tuesday revealed that business optimism hit a five-month low in August.

Data from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), a lobbying group, showed that business optimism among smaller businesses fell to 103.1 — a 1.6 point fall, signaling worries on Main Street.

Pantheon Macroeconomics said in an email that the main optimism figure was "dragged down by declines in expectations for the economy and business sales." Both measures fell significantly, by eight points and five points respectively, Pantheon said.

I'm waiting to see the cost-I hear about it, but no receipts are forthcoming. Besides, is this a we don't want to pay more issue or a we won't put up with any more of China's crap on the US issue? The answer is important and shows where you are.

Trump is not good at economic long term planning. Or keeping his businesses out of bankruptcy.

He just tries to makes as much money as possible, by legal or illegal means.

I know you liberals adore the Chinese Communist Party, but I happen to think western democracies shouldn't buy any of their goods. Why is it that American liberals will boycott an American conservative in a heartbeat but have NO PROBLEM buying goods from China, which is one of the most oppressive and dangerous regimes on the planet?

And yet:

"More than two-thirds of American voters want the U.S. to confront Beijing over its trade policies despite believing that they are suffering more from tariffs than China, a Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll survey released exclusively to The Hill found.

The poll showed 63 percent of registered voters said that tariffs imposed on Chinese products ultimately hurt the U.S. more than China, while 74 percent said that American consumers are shouldering most of the burden of those tariffs.

But 67 percent said that it is necessary to confront China over its trade practices, which President Trump and his allies have deemed unfair to the U.S."

Have you noticed the increase in prices for all things for the home? From food to handrails to windows to heating. All of these things cost more and will cost even more in OCT. due to rumps ignorance of humanity.

Rump has done a good job of propagandizing his position.

Just more bad news. Trillion dollar deficits. Stagnant market. Manufacturing slowing. Weak jobs report. 2% gdp growth...

The OP is wrong.
America is taking in billions from China in the form of tariffs.
In fact, I don't understand why the tariffs aren't 100% or more...they could become the US' biggest money earner with the stroke of a pen.

------------------------------------------ TRUMP wants to fix things for the future is what it is and I agree with him XYZ

President Trump is dealing the monsters like China and Afghanistan that were created through many years of stupid decisions of the leaders that came before him. It would be easy to kick the can down the road but that makes just makes the problems worse. It was the Chinese who invented death by a thousand cuts.

The tariffs aren’t even enough to pay for the farmer bailout.
