Trump slams Puerto Rico: ‘They want everything to be done for them’

Trump slams Puerto Rico: ‘They want everything to be done for them’

sep 30 2017 President Trump on Saturday criticized Puerto Rico's "poor leadership" and defended his administration's response to the aftermath of Hurricane Maria's devastation on the island.
Following a plea for aid by San Juan's mayor, Trump said the mayor was being "nasty."

"The Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump," Trump tweeted. "Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help."

"They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort," he continued. "10,000 Federal workers now on Island doing a fantastic job."

They are a lot like the folks in New Orleans. They are so conditioned to being taken care of by government that the idea of doing something for themselves doesn't enter their minds.

The country is bankrupt from this.

It would be nice if they were more like the people in Texas who were helping each other and clearing roads before the storm was even over. In PR, the trucks can't even get through to deliver supplies. It hasn't occurred to most people there that they can be part of the rescue effort instead of waiting for others to do everything.

IOW, shiftless and degenerate brown people.
We get it.

What part of total devastation don't you get?

The eye of Irma, passed directly over me...How bout you?

Hurricane is a Hurricane, asswipe

I'm one of those "folks in New Orleans". At this time twelve years ago, Katrina having struck on August 29, we were STILL not allowed back in to assess our stuff.

So you can shove it up your ass, coward.

Truth is that the USA has a TON of aid and supplies and stuff all sitting at the dock in trailers all ready for PR but there is no infrastructure within PR to get it there! Keep in mind they are an island out in the middle of the ocean.
My goodness, ever hear of Ospreys and helicopters? Seems we have a bunch of them.

Are there no white Liberals?

Lots of 'em! Haven't you ever seen them marching in rallies for black causes or against other white people! For a liberal, you can be white and still hate white people because at the heart of it all, all liberals hate themselves and are angry for it, then project their faults onto others to avoid seeing their own faults in themselves.
Look, little piss ant shit for brains, one does not have to hate other people to march for justice for a group of people of different pigmentation. It is sick blind little fucks like you that hate all that are not like them.

The 1920 law, which applies to all US ports, requires that all goods shipped to or from the island be handled by American ships, to the deliberate exclusion of lower-cost foreign freighters.
The law, according to economists, cited by Denis, makes food cost twice as much in Puerto Rico as in nearby Florida, and has drained as much as $17 billion from the island between 1990 and 2010.

they pay one way or another.

You say Florida has drained $17 billion from Puerto Rico because of the 1920 Jones Act which prohibits foreign shippers from taking away business from Puerto Rican shippers? Sorry, I don't see how protectionism for Puerto Rico enriches Florida, unless you mean Puerto Ricans are too lazy to run shipping businesses?

From 1990 to 2009, the US spent 256 billion dollars, not to mention the military protection and other indirect services of the US, on Puerto Rico a territory that pays in income taxes to the US. How much is the US going to spend to aid Puerto Rico after this hurricane? Who is really taking advantage of whom? Welcome to America, where parasites with special privileges are somehow still oppressed.

Puerto Rico is dead weight. We should either cut them loose or make them part of Florida. It would free them from the Jones Act. Of course, they don't want that, the parasites.

Error | US Message Board - Political Discussion Forum -- see the attached document there. PR pays more in taxes than does VT. Moreover, according to Mitt Romney, "Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax." We didn't withhold and dole resources and aid from/to Floridians, and Texans and Trump didn't assert that they want everything done for them, based on whether they are among the 53% who pay income taxes or the 47% who don't. There's no good basis for doing any differently re: US citizens in PR.

Puerto Ricans pay federal income tax. State income tax is a different ball of wax and Puerto Rico is not a State but only a mere Territory. Move to Florida or Puerto Rico to avoid State income tax. Alabama also has no State income tax and that is another option.

Wow....wow wow wow

Puerto Rico

We should be helping Puerto Rico!

The establishment doesn't want to give PR statehood,
doesn't want to give them independence and relinquish control
wants to micromanage all their affairs, have the final say
then blame them for everything that's screwed up
even though Congress is and has been, running the show!

They pay plenty in taxes but are without representation,
are U.S. citizens but, not afforded the same protections
or remedies under the Constitution

Congress was fully aware debt was mounting
and PR was being swindled by Wall Street

Congress was at the helm of the ship
while PR was deficit financing and issuing debt
to plug budget shortfalls and push debt payments
into the future, by selling PR bonds, through Wall Street firms

There are people possessing an area of land,
that belongs to the U.S and are U.S. citizens,
paying taxes, but not represented,
not protected by the Constitution,
denied statehood, denied Independence,
micro managed, dealing with a mess
Congress and Wall Street caused,
but are being blamed for and told to clean up...

And, as if, the government hasn't fucked PR enough,
they want to fuck them some more by not helping them now
after a devastating hurricane, when they need us most?

Fuck off!
What is wrong with some of you?

Unfucking real

I bet everyone who was critical of Trump’s response to Hurricane Maria is feeling silly now that he’s dedicated a golf trophy to victims!

He gave them a BIG BEAUTIFUL trophy & they are still crying about common water, food, electric, communications, sewer, housing, etc. What a bunch of crying losers.
