The president should not make such pledges because of questions from a reporter. No reason to take things off the table even if they are very unlikely.

Why didn't these people ask Soetoro to pledge that he wouldn't take unconstitutional actions to obviate U.S. immigration law? (Which he did, of course, after saying repeatedly that he lacked the power under the Constitution).
