Trump orders $50B in tariffs on Chinese imports

Great a new massive tax on Americans that will adversely affect middle and lower classes. Tariffs are wealth destroyers.

We'll force the other countries to eat the cost of the tariffs and keep prices the same.

If they don't they will open it up to competition. CHina isn't the only low cost labor source. They will contribute to the U.S treasury and jobs will increase. Already evidence the steel tariffs are directly responsible for jobs in the U.S

The steel tariffs haven't even kicked in yet. It will hit manufacturing and raise the price of American steel even higher than it already is, which is already too high to compete with the rest of the world. Tariffs are job killers. Protect one pet industry, sacrifice the rest. Liberal trade policy at its finest.

It's the anticipation, much like the tax cuts and benefits to employees. Trump won on the economy, dealing with trade abuses and the Wall.

It has to be dealt with, America is in trouble, and the rest of the world wants this. These socialist sob's had this coming to them. Lucky for them Reagan isn't in charge or he's be laying sanctions and sending ships out to the ocean and forcing boycotts.

No more of a weak, passive America getting squeezed while some fat ass in some shytehole country persecutes his own citizens on the U.S taxpayers dime. Sorry, but I get angry when so many think that the failure of America will just be replaced by China and all will be alright with the world. You have to be naive as hell if you are in Germany, Japan, Canada or America and think that the world will be a nicer place with China the only superpower.
Lol Trump won on trade abuse... The average household income in China is $10,000. The average household income in the U.S. is $84,000. Now you tell me, who's winning in that arrangement?

Yes, living on borrowed time at this rate. Americas debt for 350M citizens is 21T, Chinas debt for 1.2B citizens is $5T with much higher growth and theft of U.S R&D.

Sure we will.
I don't know why not, but I am told over and over that is not going to happen

When I moved to Maine 20 years ago, it had industry. Paper mills, shirt factories, shoe companies--good ones. Lots of stuff. One by one, they got shut out by cheaper imports. They couldn't compete. I'd love to see those jobs come back. It may be true that some of it is lost to automation, but there are humans in those foreign countries making those shoes and shirts and spinning the cotton, too, to make them. They are getting the jobs because they will work for so much cheaper.
Now, I don't know how tariffs are supposed to fix any of that--it sounds to me more like a tax on all of us. But if it does bring back a good economy to Maine, I'll be happy. I'd pay an extra 3 cents on the dollar for that to happen.

No, they got shut out by dumb as Democrat's insanely high taxes, ungodly heaps of government regulations and stupid shit trade deals.

Seriously freaking China blatantly rips us off at every opportunity and we should play nice with them?
We are punishing them for selling things to us at prices that are way too good. Isn't that fun?

Are you a ChiCom?
Are you? Why do you want the U.S. economy to take a hit by having the big fed gubmint force citizens and businesses to pay and charge higher prices?

You defend China at every turn, my guess is you are a ChiCom paid by Russia.

Remember all, companies now enjoy a 21% tax cut, massive cut from the former 35%. Businesses are looking to enter the U.S market, not just in steel or soy, a plethora of industries. All of this will support the broader economy and the tariffs in these industries will bring jobs back, and also the overall secondary impact of related industries will move to America.

Eating tariffs isn't as harmful when you have so many industries in a diverse, broad economy, but it drives behavior changes in other nations who are not as diverse, and quite frankly, not as honest in their dealings.

Trumpettes really like a government manipulated economy. It worked so well in the Soviet Union.

1.2 billion citizens, almost 4 times our population and workforce, and they have a much lower GDP. That's liberal trade policy for you.

Does it interest you that their debt goes up as their GDP growth does? When you make more, you get a bigger line of credit which is a good thing. Besides, you can't really complain about the debt while supporting Trump nuking tax revenue and ballooning spending at the same time.

Oh Russia's loving this. A trade war between the U.S. and China while Russia sits back and expands its military and influence? That might've been Putin's plan all along in backing Trump.

I pretty much agree with you on this issue. No doubt that consumer prices will rise on many items, especially automobiles and durable household items. But it is worth it to get jobs back from China, and punish them for stealing from us.

I also suspect that China will cave in and offer concessions to prevent a trade war. The U.S. market is about 18 to 20 percent of China's exports, I don't think they can afford a trade war with us.

The problem is that you cannot put a big enough tariff to bring jobs back without crashing the economy in the process

Trump must have a heart....these tariffs are nothing compared to what we should punish them with for all the illegal shit they do

It was in the news recently, China costs Hollywood billions in pirated movies and television shows. Blatantly stolen, it sounds like while Hollywood hates Trump's guts they are going to partner with him on this problem.

Seriously freaking China blatantly rips us off at every opportunity and we should play nice with them?

Seriously China steals BILLIONS from us, so what's the true deficit with China?

Here's the problem described in detail:

Here is what Trump's trade war does...

China thinks they can hold out till Biden or some other roll over dem wins the presidency....they are as whacked as our media.....They will suffer greatly with 25% tariffs and we will get millions into our treasury....I'm beginning to think China is not so smart after all....
