It was first used by Richard Nixon to describe the majority of American's who were shut out and silenced by LBJ and his Great Society socialist policies. Trump has AGAIN hit the nail on the head. vast majority of Americans not as liberal as Washington D.C. and liberal news media. They are pissed and have had enough.

Nixon's creation and use of the term "Silent Majority" had nothing to do with what you claim. Your own link shows your distortion. It was about the silent majority that supported the winning of the Vietnam war and was meant as a counter to the anti war movement. He was referring to the majority of Americans who were simply unable to voice their opinions the way the anti war movement were able to voice their opinions by marching and demonstrating.
Trump is distorting the term and his cult followers are falling in behind him. Another Trump lie. He wants to present a picture of everyday Americans joining his cult when his cult is still made up of the same old Tea Party and Christian coalition and extreme right wing factions that have been around for about 15 years and always equaled about 30% of the population.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

You connected Trump to Nixon.

Now I don't have to.

:D

Most Americans do not support deporting every single undocumented alien.

So if Trump claims a silent majority support his flagship issue, he is wrong.

The expression is still apropos. The majority of Americans want the border sealed and all illegals either forced or induced to go back where they came from. The majority of Americans are disgusted about the "anchor baby" phenomenon, and want some brave politician to do something to stop it, one way or another. The majority of Americans, while generally accepting of gay "marriage," were appalled (and pissed off) at how it was forced down our throats by the court system.

The majority of Americans are disgusted at the O'Bama Administrations' lawless usurpation of power to thwart the will of Congress and the American people on a whole laundry list of issues.

Why is it a "silent" majority? Because aside from Conservative talk radio, the MSM plays up everything that supports the Progressive agenda and downplays everything else, thus giving the illusion that "everyone agrees" on climate change bullshit, that people who want a border fence are "racist," and so on.

Trump has struck a nerve, and Democrats know it.

Stadiums full of supporters disagree with you:
They do want our immigration laws enforced.
They do not want our wealth redistributed to foreign countries.
1-5-10-15 tax reform is more appealing, than being taxed to death.
We want America's natural resources to stay in America.........

So conservatives have abandoned free trade as one of the cornerstones of conservative economic policy?

The 'vast majority"? Really? Care to back that up, or do you stand by hyperbole?

and how do you quantify "liberal"? What scale, what evidence can you present?

The 2012 midterms sere history repeating, not history making.

Each and every two term President since WWII has lost political control of congress during the mid term elections during his second term.

You're reading tea leaves and they are actually coffee grounds.

Nothing I said abandons free trade. We are against things like Nestle sucking our clean water out of our lakes and streams for pennies, and then selling it back to us for dollars. Stuff like that.....

You are correct.
The silent majority is an unspecified large majority of people in a country or group who do not express their opinions publicly.[1] The term was popularized by U.S. President Richard Nixon in a November 3, 1969, speech in which he said, "And so tonight—to you, the great silent majority of my fellow Americans—I ask for your support."[2]
