This issue has not seemed to catch the attention of the media with all the important newsworthy stories like Waco Jacko, Scott Peterson, and the beltway sniper trial.

America media for you... go figure!

I for one say that Taiwan has every right to declare independance from China. US and the world entire for that matter should stick with Taiwan. I think it's a very poor precedent not stand by democracy in the face of totalitarianism!

China should understand that the world has tolerated its communism and does not want to interfere in mainland internal affairs, however Taiwan has been administered seperately for 50 years. If it wants out, let's support them.

I certainly agree with the sentiments, but would very much doubt we would actually support that as a policy. War with China? I don't see us getting into that until after the 'War on Terror' which will probably be after my lifetime.

I don't think we need to worry. I have serious reservations about us entering an armed conflict with China. At most I think we will provide military hardware to taiwan, but troops is another story.

I agree and we'll send a few more aircraft carriers and subs to remind China of our position.

China would have be stark-raving mad to risk war with the US over Taiwan. Frankly, i just don't think they have the cod to do it. Plus, i know it wouldn't just be the US, it would be most of the democracized world.

China has no navy to speak of, so all that would be required would be enough airplanes/ships to keep paratroopers out of Taiwan. I agree, though, the US should support Taiwan if they want to declare their independece.
