Transpacific Partnership Lurches Closer to Fast Track?

TPP: An attack on the US Constitution.
"And the thing about that, one of the things about this that makes it so dangerous is that not only do you have to harmonize your laws, but then going forward if a city passes a law, or state or federal passes a law in the public interest to protect their people or the planet or their resources, and it undermines the profits of a corporation, they can sue the government for their expected profits.

"The profits they expected to make. And that means that they go not to a regular court.

"They go to a trade tribunal.

"And the judges on this trade tribunal are three judges who are corporate lawyers, on leave from their corporate job, being lawyers, making decisions, and going back to their corporate job.

"So it's a rigged trade tribunal, and our courts or Vietnam's courts or Peru's courts, any country's courts, cannot review that decision. The U.S. Supreme Court cannot overturn a decision of the trade tribunal. It becomes the more powerful decision."

without free trade we'd have to make everything ourselves. Can you imagine that?
You're right.
It's a shame that there's no trade happening between countries at the moment.

You were the one that said without free trade we would have to make everything ourselves.
You're arguing against yourself now?
Why do you even bother to come on here when you can hold conversations with yourself in the privacy of your own home?

TPP brings back Joe Camel!

"In the U.S. alone, tobacco annually costs over $170 billion in direct medical expenses and $150 billion in lost productivity. Globally, that figure rises to $300 billion per year.

"And the costs are not financial alone.

"According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 'more than 16 million Americans are living with a disease caused by smoking,' and what's more 'for every person who dies because of smoking, at least 30 people live with a serious smoking-related illness.'

"Yet, unless revised, the TTP will reduce tobacco tariff rates to zero and provide new rights to tobacco companies, pitting global public health in developing countries against the deep pockets of an industry that sells products known to cause serious health risks, including cancer and death."

it is true that without free trade we would have to make everything ourselves. The golden rule is "the more with whom you tade the richer you get, the fewer the poorer. Simple but still over the liberal IQ.

"In the wake of the worst financial crisis and economic recession since the Great Depression, governments around the world are re-regulating financial firms, seeking to reverse the extreme deregulation that led to foreclosed homes, bank bailouts, lost jobs and collapsing economies. Incredibly, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) would provide big banks with a backdoor means of watering down such efforts to re-regulate Wall Street."
