WASHINGTON — Vice President-elect Mike Pence heralded inauguration eve as “a momentous day before a historic day” in a surprise appearance at a press briefing Thursday.

“Wrapping up this transition on schedule and under budget,” Pence bragged, claiming the transition team would return 20 percent of the taxpayer-funded budget to the federal government.

Pence claimed the transition had made great strides — and would be ready on “day one” to govern. He also noted that all cabinet officials have been named by President-elect Donald Trump to their positions.

“We look forward to seeing you tomorrow. It’s going to be a very humbling and moving day,” he said.

Despite Pence’s brief opening remarks, the press conference — the transition team’s first on-camera briefing, save Trump’s own last week at Trump Tower — served mainly as a prep session for incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

Spicer previewed Friday’s inaugural address, saying it will be “less of an agenda and more of a philosophical document” laying out Trump’s guiding view.

He also announced 50 Obama appointees have been asked to stay on and serve in the Trump administration.

Spicer blasted Senate Democrats, particularly Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), for holding up cabinet appointees on Capitol Hill.

That's what happens when a businessman gets in there. A businessman who knows how to get things in on time and under budget.

The professional politicians in DC should take some lessons.

Give us the numbers so we can compare them to previous administrations. In 2008 Obama only used 5.2 mil out of the 7 mil. allocated. Bush's numbers were even better in the 2000 transition.

Nothing remarkable about Trump here.

Who’s helping pay for President-elect Trump’s transition effort? You are.

Do you ALWAYS just make stuff up, or just this one time?

in 2009, Obama spent $9.3 million. The Costs of Presidential Transition

Trump allocated $7 million, of which $5.8 million was used. The remaining $1.2 million was returned to the national treasury. Oh, by the way, $2.5 million was allocated to Obama for his expenses ... none of it has been returned, as of this date.

Why do they need to beg Obama appointees to stay if they are SOOOOO good?"

Do you guys always fall for Trump and Pence lies?

When Clinton was president, by this time, ALL his nominees had been confirmed. Trump's guys wouldn't even give their paperwork. And with whats been found, we can see why.

Well when you have to pick from Trump's 3rd string pom pom squad, and the physco babble interpreters that have surrounded him throughout this campaign, how much time and money would anyone need?

So was that other thread, basically showing how they way overspent what they should have, not enough for you?

They made like 26 appointments. Some transition with spending 80% of the money.

Hell, with 100% of the money, they COULD have made 600+ of the necessary appointments. But that would just be economically responsible.

You are entitled to your opinion .... I will defend to the death your right to say stupid things.

But ... you're really taking it to extremes.

in 2009, Obama spent $9.3 million. The Costs of Presidential Transition

Of the total cost of the transition ($9.3 million), about $4 million was raised privately. That is where the $5.2 million number derives. I didn't make it up Skippy, I read it in the link. Reading comprehension.....get you some.

There is nothing remarkable about Trump in this regard. Well except that he is returning money prior to having completed the task of filling out his appointments, the whole reason he was allocated the money in the first place. :rolleyes-41:

When Clinton was president, by this time, ALL his nominees had been confirmed. Trump's guys wouldn't even give their paperwork. And with whats been found, we can see why.

That speaks volumes of GOP willingness to go and get along,

Democrats of today should learn by the good example shown by GOP.
