No one should be forced to participate in this parade if they don't want to.

The only exception to this would be security patrols enforcing the safety of those present. A cop shouldn't be able to get out of that because he doesn't like homosexuality. However, that is entirely different than being a prop in the parade and taking part in the celebrations.

You know, I wouldn't include security patrols, as they are paid to be there, and they are doing an actual function for the parade, not as a part of it, so therefore they are exempt.

As far as forcing them? I don't agree with it. Matter of fact, I kinda didn't like having to go to "mandatory fun" parties (command functions), because I could have more fun and drink better beer than what they provided there.

Although......on the other side of the spectrum.....every year for Memphis in May on Beale St. in Memphis TN, I volunteered for mandatory fun in the manner of working the various booths. Got free beer, free entrance to all the clubs, and free food. All I had to give was an hour or two of my time. Now that is something that I can get involved in. Besides, it was a great way to meet women.

Oh sure, it's sexual harassment when gay men flirt with straight men but when a man touches and makes advances at a woman who is clearly not interested it's the womans fault because she dressed 'alluring'. I'm pretty sure the firefighters could handle themselves in private and would not have put themselves into this kind of situation. If your boss makes you dance on a pole and you are not a stripper I think that you, and these firefighters, would have a legal case.

the DIFFERENCE BEING, if these men walked into a gay bar then they would have no one to blame but themselves and the catcalling men. BUT, because they were forced into a sexually uncomfortable position by their employers they have a case. Again, if you were FORCED to poledance by your employer then you would sue them regardless if men have been catcalling women for ages.

Good point. At your average parade a truck load of female firefighters would probably get some catcalls from the crowd and I seriously doubt they'd file a complaint against their employer.

I think it is wrong either way...people shouldn't harass each other but for some reason the story makes me laugh.
