How can there have been 4 attacks or attempted attacks on the consulate prior to the 9/11 disaster and yet security hadn't been strengthened? This screams incompetence.

No threat assessment in Benghazi prior to ambassador's arrival, source says

An intelligence source on the ground in Libya told Fox News that no threat assessment was conducted before U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team began "taking up residence" at the Benghazi compound -- describing the security lapses as a "total failure."
The claim comes more than two weeks after Stevens and three other Americans were killed in what is now being described officially as a terror attack possibly tied to Al Qaeda.
The source told Fox News that there was no real security equipment installed in the villas on the compound except for a few video cameras.
On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the worst, the intelligence source said the security lapses were a 10 -- a "total failure" because Benghazi was known to be a major area for extremist activity.
There had been four attacks or attempted attacks on diplomatic and western targets leading up to the Sept. 11 strike on the U.S. Consulate.
Based on that information, a former regional security officer for diplomatic security told Fox News, the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi had to have been classified or assessed by the State Department as a "critical threat terrorism or civil unrest posting."
The mounting questions regarding security at the compound prompted all members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday to write to the State Department asking for additional details about security at U.S. diplomatic posts and for a fuller explanation of the attacks on U.S. compounds in Libya, Egypt and Yemen.

I think that unless Hillary can prove that she requested help and was denied, that should end any political ambitions she might have had. As, Sec. of State, this was her football and she certainly fumbled it.

It was a matter of State Department/Administration policy that any and all security measures be low profile. They could've had US Marines there but that would've been too high a profile; I.E. guys with loaded guns. Marines do not operate under the auspices of State, but under the military command. They didn't want that so they hired a British security contractor who was willing to do the security without weapons, knowing they would be seen as being British and not American, therefore they could seperate themselves from the Americans if there were an attack.

The British security people sold out the Americans inside when pushed to do so.

Keep in mind that there were mortar attacks on the safe house at the annex. Mortar fire is from a distance not close up. Mortar fire requires setting up and aiming the mortar in advance to get the proper fire control.

Well.. Democrats will make excuses and conveniently forget..

That's just sickening to read. :( I flash back to those pitiful photos of Chris Stevens' body posted all over the internet, and THAT is the result of this administration's incompetence. Those guys didn't have to die. And the continued protests at our embassies throughout the region shouldn't be happening.

We've had foreign flags raised over our embassies and our president doesn't feel he needs to speak to the people.

Absolutely. Her political ambitions are caput. She better not try to say, but I tried to tell Obama...she had ample mic time to say what ever needed to be said.

looking at the fact they have now sent all 'unnecessary personnel' from the Tripoli embassy now, which is the real embassy and is infinitely stronger than the Benghazi consulate, its clear, we never should have had a consulate ( or allowed him) in Benghazi minus a very strong presence. They effed up big time.

and thats exactly right, using a mortar requires at least a rudimentary understanding of algebra, you have to know how to set the charge on the shells and plenty of practice and training, this isn't a 'shoot 3 rounds your qualified' training either.
