Too much of America was built off slavery and I think God is punishing us for it

I don't see the Irish grumbling about slavery... If one studies their history one would find out that Many slaves came from Ireland and their value was far less then the black ones.. If my memory serves me correctly they went for five English pounds compared to the more valuable 50 pounds for black ones....Now I am not condoning slavery as I think it is despicable but one must put these things in perspective... Slavery has been around a lot longer then the United States has and many people's have felt its sting... To say the United States is being punished for it is silly and any people working worldwide in the service industry( just another name for servitude or serf) is getting wages but is in low paying jobs with no chance of bettering their lives.... So what has changed really...

Sugar farming and a lot of other aspects of industry that boomed America in those early decades were heavily aided by slavery. It allowed to America to grow immensely very quickly. America is a total mess now and I think this (along with turning our backs on God) is partly punishment from God for the sins of our past.

Black lives matter.

Civilizations was built on slavery, it was common place across most of the world.

Water under the bridge, blame in today's generations for actions of past generations is a cowardly act suitable of a progressive socialist
Is it water under the bridge if it still affects those currently living, either for their benefit or their detriment?

Slavery wasn't that widespread in the U.S. and didn't exist for all that long. That being said, slavery and abortion are the greatest sins of these United States. God doesn't need to punish us....sin causes it's own punishment.

"Too much of America was built off slavery and I think God is punishing us for it"

Nonsense.

There is no ‘god’ as perceived by theists, and consequently no ‘punishment.’

It’s as if the OP is posting from the Middle Ages.

The country is not ‘in a mess’; in fact, America is far better off today than it was 8 years ago.

Moreover, one cannot ‘turn his back’ on something that doesn’t exist.

And even if meant as a metaphor, whether Americans practice a given religion or not has no bearing whatsoever on the condition of the Nation; indeed, what problems the country does face are a result of intolerance and bigotry practiced by some persons of faith.
