Too Funny- Gallup Poll- Papa Obama behind Generic Republican

No president has gotten re-elected since World War II with unemployment this high. $4.00 a gallon gasoline. 5% inflation. Home values have dropped 7% this year alone.

I don't underestimate Obama because incumbancy brings certain advantages. But when it comes to the things Americans are upset about, Obama is in the company of Bush-41, Carter and Ford, more than Reagan or Clinton.

How about before WWII? FDR had unemployment above 20% and got reelected three times. Why? Because the voters knew that the Republicans had created the Great Depression and that FDR was doing his best to clean up their mess

Sound familoiar?

Uh, no, not really.

First, in the case of FDR, the Recession had been raging for 3 1/2 years and unemployment was at 25% when he took office. this was at a time when most women didn't work. So getting it down to 16% by 1936 (the first time he stood for re-election) probably seemed like a real accomplishment by most people's eyes. By 1940, it was down to 14%, but at that point, WWII was already strangling world trade and everyone knew we were going to get into it sooner or later. By 1944, they were down to 1.2 unemployment.

In the case of Obama, he inherited an unemployment rate that was still below 7% when he got elected, and sprang it up to 10%, and it hasn't gotten much below 9%.

Second, FDR was dealing with at GOP that had been largely eviserated over the last four election cycles (it didn't start making signifigant comebacks until 1938). Obama has managed to infuse new life into the GOP.

Third, FDR was truly a leader. He didn't defer to congress, appoint commissions to tackle tough problems, etc. He got out there and took charge. Obama... meh.

President Obama didn't "infuse" new life into the GOP. They just went with the "I'm mad as hell and I ain't gonna take it more" mentality. They ran against themselves without owning the fact they caused all this shit. Like you here. Trying to blame Obama on the spike in unemployment before he assumed office. Unemployment numbers right now have gone down..over the last 3.5 years..albeit at a snails pace..and corporate profits have exploded.

FDR had some pretty tough times..but he didn't have a media spotlight on him 24/7 and a congress at the ready to spring him with all sorts of obstructionist tactics. He was able to fuck up royally a couple of times..particularly when he tried to re-impose austerity measures to get a "handle on spending". Sound familar? President Obama doesn't have the same luxury. Every nervous tic of his face is recorded and played 100s of times on the internet.

If unemployment is still around 8% or higher and this President gets elected again every person who voted for him should be brought to the center of town in every community in this country and be made to walk the walk of shame.

if Rick Perry is such a weak candiate, THEN WHY IS THE NEW YORK TIMES SO AFRAID OF HIM ???? Any current polls with that include him are not a Snapshot of the future, Lets all wait and see how he performs in the next debate. God, why do Democrats have to speak for the 50-60 Million or so independants? Independants haven't voted yet!! Remember when we all laughed when Obama was just a mere unkown banana when he began his campaign? and we all assumed Hillary had already won the 2008 election?

"The walk of shame?" Is that the walk that W used to do on the way to the chopper? You know, he always walked like he was wearing 6 Shooters Funny!

The New York Times is a paper. It feels no pain. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with.

Indeed, it just becomes more irrelevant over time as it keeps losing subscriptions and readership

Obama inherited a 7.8 unemployment rate that was losing 700,000 jobs a month. It was no gift from George Bush.

You know, guy, there's a point where Obama's got to put on his big boy pants and stop blaming Bush for his bad economy.

As for who "owns this shit", I think both parties deserve a lot of the blame. I think the idiots who let the housing market spiral out of control by letting poor people buy houses with food stamps are as much to blame as the banks who bundles those junk mortgages and sold them off to people. Barney Frank protecting Fannie Mae because his boyfriend worked there or Chris Dodd taking sweetheart deals from the banking industry.

End of the day, Obama' been president for three years, and hasn't fixed the problems. time for him to go.

I agree. It's a different time. FDR would never have been able to get away with the stuff he got away with. And Obama won't, either.

Either the economy gets a lot better in the next few months, or this clown better start planning his presidential library in Hyde Park.

NO it wasn't. Although if you go to a right wing board, they'll blame it on Democrats taking Congress in 2006 (which is when everything started to go south).

But at the end of the day, Bush won't be on the ballot next year, and it's Obama's economy in all it's glory.
