Tomorrow I Close ALL My Accounts With Wells Fargo Bank...

I am a WF customer. This is mainly because my parent's are/were (Norwest mergered with WF in 99) and it just seemed the place to open my first checking account at 18, but I also had accounts joint with my parents as well. I have had that account since. We also have our mortgage with them.

I have worked for WF in the past, and they do not make bones about being pro-homo, as I worked with several openly gay people, including one gay male couple that invited the whole office floor to their commitment ceremony(i didn't go because I myself was getting married the next day). But they also support NORMAL families as well. When I was pregnant with Nathan, they were SO good and supportive and helpful about my needs that I actually regret not being there now. So I didn't agree with their opinion on homosexuality, I still had great benefits myself, and that job enabled us to buy our house, because I worked for the mortgage division, so I had NO fees from them, not even application fees. I even got an incentive of $250 in credit for tru-green chemlawn that WF partnered with for attracting more customers.

I will not change banks because 1.-it would be a pain in the arse since I have nearly all my bills automatically paid through that account, but through the website of the company I am paying. My billpay service through wells fargo is free, so if I do need to send a payment that way, no problem. It would be too much work to call all my bills and change everything.
2.-The WF atm's here allow me to deposit funds up to 6pm, and still be credited THAT DAY, not the day after like other banks.
3.-Because I have been with them since 1996, I have leverage when needing to borrow money or open another account.

Those of you who are taking their business away, it's your business and personal choice, and I am not going to try to change your mind. I just don't plan to because I am happy with the service and convenience they offer, and just don't really think about their other affiliations.

And that's the beauty of America... "freedom of choice".

I wasn't complaining about the service or treatment I'd gotten from WF either. It is simply a deep and stark contrast between my personal beliefs, and their open support of queers. Yes it will be a hassle to change everything over to a new bank, but it's a hassle I'm willing to endure.

Good thing is, I was to have a meeting with a mortgage specialist from WF today at eleven. I canceled that. It's good that I found this out BEFORE that went any further. Another Good thing is, Bank of America has branches all over Reno, and one really close to me, AND they also handle Veterans Loans. Double good. AND, when I go up to Virginia City to party, I won't get charged a fee when I use the ATM outside the Bucket of Blood, because it's a BofA ATM!

I have Bank of America, and I like it a lot, if it's of any piece of mind to you...

So does archangel, and he's also very happy with them. So yes, it helps to hear from someone who's already banking with them and happy.

Also, they have branch offices all over Reno, AND do V.A. loans, so this move is going to work out well.

I hate banks, but my mattress is soft!
My grandmother hates banks so much she doesn't use em.
Uses the ole matress and anytrhing else she can stash money in.

About a year ago, their car was stolen in Florida, with all of their clothes and
camping gear. They eventually found the car and Granny had like $4,000
hidden in (literally) the car that they never found.

Bank of America Foundation provided grants to nonprofit organizations during 2004 (excludes employee matching gifts, volunteer grants and national programs). The following organizations received support:

SAN DIEGO LESBIAN GAY BISEXUAL AND TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY CENTER

then again in todays world I suppose if I banned all those businesses who gave grants wether or not I approved I would just have to sit home and stare at the walls...but I will send em a e-mail and show my dissaproval!

Now check out what they funded in Nevada...quite a contrast...many more worthwhile receipients!

I JUST heard about this on Fox News, and could NOT believe my ears. I have banked with Wells Fargo for over fifteen years, and have a sizable amount of money in their bank, but tomorrow, I will close ALL accounts and cut all ties with Wells Fargo Bank, and say hello to Bank One.
Just goes to show you that you can't please everyone all the time.
Like the Wal-Mart/Christmas issue!!!

Opened new accounts at Bank of America yesterday. What a difference form W.F.. I counted three services that BofA include the W.F. charged a "FEE" for. Not only that, there was other features that I really like. It was a very good move, and I'm quite happy with my decision.

But, as I sat down and explained I was closing my W.F. accounts for "personal" reasons, the banker helping me curiously informed me that I was the THIRD person THAT DAY he had helped that was switching over to them from Wells Fargo. Hmmmmm.... wonder why?

It could be the fees...I run from them too. Credit Unions for me, I was kidding about the mattress.

We've had a Wells Fargo here for about eight years and they are hanging by a thread. It has nothing to do with any kind of pro-gay stance, as I doubt most people even know about it around here, they just suck. Most of the people I know that are even close to satisfied with them are the people who have moved in from somewhere else and have always used Wells Fargo, which aren't many. Others have tried, but most end up moving to Citibank or the locally owned Legend Bank.

A little of topic, but something I thought some here might like: I use Legend Bank, mostly because I like to keep things as local as I can. On the account statement they send out each month, there is a big American flag next to the Legend Bank name, and right above the breakdown of monthly activity it says "...One Nation Under God..."

Gotta love small towns.

I am actually glad I am with WF because when we went to Vegas, our hotel had 1 WF ATM amongst all the generic ATM's, so when we pulled cash, BAM...no fees, and I was able to cash a check at the Los Angeles bank branch when our atm withdrawl limit was reached when we drove out to Santa Monica. Without that bank being there, I would not have been able to go boogie boarding by the pier for the first time in my life.

B of A doesn't have any branches here, and neither does Citibank or Bank One. USBank does, but Tim had them in the past and he was not happy with how they handled his account. Our HELOC is with them, and I haven't had the greatest of service with just that one account.

I have never had a problem with WF that they couldn't resolve in a timely matter, and 99% time, it was my own fault, and I accepted that. But they were still willing to help me out in any way including waiving fees that were legitimate and were charged due to my errors. I didn't even have to make a fuss.

Even so, moving all my accounts and having to change by bill paying set-up, would take the good part of 2 days. Not worth it, since I have nothing to complain about.

those google ads make this really a fun thread.

Wells Fargo Online

Gay Pride

and Rainbow Depot are advertised to me. :teeth:

I guess the owner of the board unknowingly supports the GLBT agenda.

Boy just makes me shudder at what some companies profits or should I say tax write off's are really going towards....

Anyone use Commerce Bank?? They seem to be very customer oriented, they are open 7 days a week etc...

Then again they probably are owned by Sorros or wholey suppport Move-on.org...

I don't know of any Commerce Bank around Chicago. I work at the National Bank of Commerce, but know they only have 2 branches and the owner is a friend of the family.

I have my mortgage with Washington Mutual, which I've been very happy with.

Jesse, the guy who started my acounts the other day told me that BofA had one of the largest ATM networks in the nation, with over 16,000 in America, and over 33 million world wide that I can use WITHOUT paying a FEE. I can use any machine with either the STAR or PLUS logo for free, and the BofA machines of course too.

The Bill Pay feature with BofA is free. If my memory serves me correctly, WF charged a FEE for that.

The list of cool things this bank does is too long to list here. It'd take me too much time, but, the COOLEST thing they do, if you want, is each time you use your debit card, they "round up" your total to the next whole dollar, and then deposit the difference into your savings. He wasn't even half way through explaining it to me and I'd already told him twice to sign me up for that. I've been throwing change into an empty gallon bottle of Jack Daniels for years. I've filled it and emptied it twice. It adds up VERY fast, so it was a no brainer to have them do the round up thing. I really like that.

I use USAA and Bank of the West. Both of them are free checking for life, and USAA doesn't charge for ATM's.

USAA has been good to us......we are preapproved for consumer and personal loans and we never have to go through that little gut wrenching "will it be approved" moment when we decide to go shopping for large purchases.

I quit BOA in the late 80's.......another bank came to my business and wooed us to switch over. I moved $500K out of BOA and it took them two weeks to notice........and then we suddenly became important enough that they sent out three of the bank officers to find out why.

Have never used WF.

Good luck.

hey, whatever works for you.

like I said, B of A doesn't have any branches here. The major ones are WF, USbank, Anchor, Bremer, and TCF. My business account is with TCF because they are the only ones that didn't charge a monthly fee because I don't have many transactions.
