Told Ya' America Was A Center-Right Nation

Democrats are in control of government from federal to local. They were put there by the consent of the governed.

Wow!

I expected this post to begin "Bulletin! Bulletin! Bulletin!"

And, no klaxon????

Sarcasm does not refute an argument. If this country is center/right, why is it governed by the center/left party? Can you answer that?

Ah, but sarcasm does point out the insipid nature of your post.

It was simply brilliant!

And I mean 'brilliant' is the same way I mean it when I call you 'Einstein.'

So, what intellectual initiative is behind "Democrats are in control of government from federal to local. They were put there by the consent of the governed"?

1. We won, so we will be in control, as in 'a Democrat Third Reich!'

or

2. We won, so that means we will always win!

or

3. We won, and I haven't noticed any fall-off in support!

or

4. We won, and I'm covering me ears: I can't hear you, so you're not talking!

So, which one, EINSTEIN?

"Washington (CNN) – A majority of Americans think the federal government poses a threat to rights of Americans, according to a new national poll.

Fifty-six percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday say they think the federal government's become so large and powerful that it poses an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens. Forty-four percent of those polled disagree.

The survey indicates a partisan divide on the question: only 37 percent of Democrats, 63 percent of Independents and nearly 7 in 10 Republicans say the federal government poses a threat to the rights of Americans."

Those on the right believe Government based on 1. consent of the governed, 2. limited government…limited in purpose, but not weak: powerful in protecting rights, 3. responsible Constitutionalism: the government is responsible to the people, not responsible for them. (should not take on too many jobs.)

For those on the left, the government must become the Administrative State, involved in every aspect of our lives.

Looks like most folks have made their choice.

Yep America WAS a right center nation and it will take us years to recover from that.

We were told repeatedly during the 2008 election that Barack Obama was the most liberal member of the Senate, and yet he was elected president.

How would that happen in a center/right nation?

The most conservative Republicans in the Senate, or House for that matter, aren't even competitive in the GOP primaries let alone able to get elected president.

How would that happen in a center/right nation?

So, le't re-analyze.

The CNN Poll of some one-thousand-plus states " 37 percent of Democrats, 63 percent of Independents and nearly 7 in 10 Republicans say the federal government poses a threat to the rights of Americans."

Then there is some little pecker (good choice for your avatar) who is rolling on the ground, kicking his feet, and pounding his little fists, yelping "no it isn't a center-right nation...is not, is not, is not...."

Isn't it time for your noon time feeding?

The Republicans are out of power. Of course they're going to say that.

How about actually addressing why a center/right nation puts a LIBERAL in the Whitehouse, a left of center majority in the Senate, a left of center majority in the House, a left of center majority in Governorships, and a left of center majority in state legislatures.

How about you actually debate an issue and respond to that?

The fact that you imagine that the people see the threat of intrusive government a threat to their freedom, indicative that the people are RIGHT LEANING, informs us that you are are missing the forest for the trees.

Those of us on the left and the right are concerned about the imperious usurption of our freedoms.

Where the left and right typically disagree is about which policies are most intrusive to freedoms.

Not IF the government is a threat -- about that they both agree -- but what policies and laws government does that are the most intrusive threats to freedom.

Partisans of either party are clueless tools of the Insider's cabal, AFAIC.

Fall off in support? Right, the Democrats went from 58 to 57 in the Senate. The Republicans, in this supposedly right of center nation, haven't had 60 Senators since about 1920.

If this is a right of center nation shouldn't conservatives be happier? Shouldn't conservatives have a history of winning on their issues, as opposed to an almost unblemished record of losing on issues?

Shouldn't most Americans want to outlaw abortion if this is a conservative nation?

Shouldn't most Americans want to keep gays out of the military if this a conservative nation?

We're a nation of lazy idiots who are fooled by the "left-right" bullshit into thinking their government cares about them or what they think. I wouldn't be running around proud that we're a "center-right" nation. It was the center-right that joined with the center-left and brought us the patriot act, the bank bailouts, the failed drug war, the invasion of Iraq and maybe the invasion of Iran soon enough. "Center-right" equals a nation full of neo-cons and neo-conservatism is already a proven failure.

A succinct and pointed re-stating of the OP!

I've seen some of your posts, so it is eminently clear why the distinction would be far too nuanced for you.

How about you actually debate an issue and respond to that?

Now, Woody, are you playing dumb...or,well you know the rest.

There are so many aspects of the 'perfect storm' that put this incompetent into the WH, that one must think that you are actually up to formulating a strategy that would get me to post a verbose- as I am prone to do- post that would change the directioin of the OP.

Did you come up with that plan?

All by yourself?

Well, I think I'll stick to the the simple, a word that I use with respect to you, idea that

1. big government is a progressive, left wing idea

2. small government is a conservative, generally right wing concept.

Now, if you would like to introduce the question in the post as a new thead, I might be disposed to take that one on!

But before you start that campaign, better ask yourself whether Nachos will taste as good through a feeding tube.

Its been asked and answered: The electorate is a bunch of morons.

There are many people who describe themselves as left of center who are pro life and who support 'don't ask don't tell' and there are many people who describe themselves as right of center who are pro choice and who have no problem whatsoever with gays in the military. Such issues are far less a matter of ideology and far more a matter of cultural conditioning and personal beliefs.

So let's don't muddy the water here with straw man arguments.

Conservatives are not happy right now because we have a government that is hell bent on driving us to the brink of marxist socialist government. Because more Americans are right of center than left of center--I suspect that number is even greater than the poll cited in the OP--they fear and reject more and more government control over their personal lives, their choices, their options, their opportunities, and their freedoms.

Then, "conservatives" should have been unhappy before 2008.

I'm not sure I trust the "conservatives" if they're not able to get their shit together until we're on the "brink of Marxist socialist government." This is why Limbaugh is an idiot. He equates Republicans with a solution.

I want you to tell me how and/or why a supposedly right of center nation consistently elects more left of center representatives.

IMO there are a number of reasons.

1) Following the cultural revolution of the 60's, leftist activists strongly infiltrated the entertainment industry, the media, and the education system. As a result, much leftists empasis has been pushed as the norm for a generation now.

2) Many--most--Americans shrug off most of it because appreciation for personal liberties and freedom is strong here, but don't always see all of it for the sham that it usually is. And, because they haven't had opportunity to receive a good balance of socioeconomic concepts, many didn't know to get the better information.

3) Finally, those campaigning for office, know that the American psyche is right of center and they throw a few bones to the left to keep them in line, but also present themselves as reasonable, moderate centrists which they have never been in their lives. And a sometimes poorly informed public buys into it and votes for the rhetoric rather than a track record.

I think the worm is turning though. For 20 years or so we had nothing to counter the onslaught of propaganda pushing the leftist agenda. But now we have talk radio, Fox News, a handful of excellent conservative publications, and the internet to provide a least some balance to the much larger and more invasive leftist influence in entertainment, the vast majority of the media, and the education system.

This is the best, most cogent post you have written in this thread.

That's why I suspect someone wrote it for you...

But still, it is a great point.

I can only surmise that those of us in this great right-of-center nation feel that we should, to some degree, bow to the wishes of various and sundry interest groups, minorities, etc.
Most of us have no desire to have it all our own way, to be totalists.

Thus, sometimes we go too far with the "no, no, after you..." nonsense, and wind up with a Carter or an Obama.

That is what makes America the shining city on the hill.

I don't agree. I believe it's because people call themselves conservatives who really aren't. Since we're talking about spending, for example, consider the following:

LIMITATION ON CHANGES TO THE SOCIAL SECURITY ACT.--Notwithstanding any other provision of law, it shall not be in order in the Senate or the House of Representatives to consider any bill or resolution pursuant to any expedited procedure to consider the recommendations of a Task Force for Responsible Fiscal Action or other commission that contains recommendations with respect to the old-age, survivors, and disability insurance program established under title II of the Social Security Act.

What is it? It's a Senate amendment that was passed regarding the formation of the so-called Deficit commission. What does the amendment do? In simple terms, it takes Social Security off the table.

What was vote on passage of the amendment? 97 to 0.

Now, how many of those 97 Senators, yet, proclaim themselves to be conservatives?

Simple question....if this country is center right..how did Obama win? Not only win but electorally, it was a landslide.

Explain that little fact.

a landslide
