I had a serious bunion where my toe was at a 45 degree angle and was pressing against the 2nd toe, causing the rest of bend to the right. This was not a life or death situation, but it was very uncomfortable and the big toe if not attended to would eventually move under the 2 toe. So I went to this private doctor, and he successfully removed the bunion, realigned the big to and shortened the 2nd to slightly to keep the foot stable. In Cuba if it got worse, they would just remove the foot. God bless America for being free, not some socialist country that would dictate whether I needed an operation or not.

How do you know that?
Meet Rahm Emanuel's Brother: Dr. Zeke the Bleak
Under the idea of “Comparative Effectiveness Research” (CER), which has already been funded to the tune of over $1 billion, the inevitable and unavoidable rationing just described would more than likely be carried out under a regime of care denial driven by age-based and “quality of life” criteria. This will, formally or informally, lead to a system similar to that found in the UK, where its National Health Service, under the concept of “Quality-Adjusted Life Years” (QALY), won’t pay for medical procedures that “cost” more than $50,000 for each year of additional life expected to be gained (“cost” is in quotes because I believe that such “costs” are often overloaded with fixed overhead that largely should not be relevant to such decisions).
NHS 'rationing leaves patients in pain'
Vital NHS operations and treatments are being increasingly rationed in England, leaving patients in pain, doctors say.
The treatments affected include hip and knee replacements and cataract surgery to help restore sight as well as drugs for conditions such as arthritis.
Such care is normally given routinely, but the British Medical Journal has found evidence it is being cut back.

With universal healthcare, it is all about rationing...….But you go ahead and dont believe, I lived while the USSR was around, the people over there went over the all to come to free countries, not socialist countries, they faced machine guns and very mean dogs, to be free.....

So why do people go to Europe for surgical procedures? It is a lot cheaper in regards to cool sculpting. And my feet are so screwed up as growing up I could not get shoes that fir properly so my toes are all goofy. Big toes hook into the rest of them and they are also bent over and toenails grow into the soul of my feet. 70 years old and I can live with it.

They crossed the Berlin wall to get bunions removed?

My Boss had his eyes lasered over in Saudi Arabia because it cost 1/2 as much. They over corrected his vision, and now he has to wear bottle cap sized glasses. You want to go where it is cheaper, go for it, but 1. you take a risk for cheap(you get what you pay for) and 2. You cant sue to doctor over there for malpractice like you can here. As for your condition, go for it, I play gold, bowl, and ride bikes 10 miles a day.

I didn't say I didn't believe you. You specifically mentioned Cuba and I asked you how you knew you wouldn't have gotten the procedure there. Are you simply assuming that's the case or did you actually look into it?

I waited a few years to get my lasik done, I went to the doctors who had performed it on the whole DC metro police force and a few athletes. Today I still see 20/20 at a distance and have to use cheaters up close. Before I had bifocals all the time, and hated that.

Communism - it is the same no matter where you go. Socialism eventually leads to communism, always has, always will. The government decides if you live or die. Not you.

So?

Who knows better, you or some nameless bureaucrat? Our Progressive Jihadists and Stalinist democrats finally convinced me that these decisions are better left to other people I'll never meet

It is republicans who let you die, not dems.

I had a serious bunion where my toe was at a 45 degree angle and was pressing against the 2nd toe, causing the rest of bend to the right.

It makes one wonder why anyone would scream for socialized medicine in this country. Anyone that I've ever met that has had it wants nothing to do with it ever again.

So, you're an expert on Cuban surgical practices?

You stated as a fact that couldn't have had your bunion removed in Cuba. In actuality, you don't know that at all, so this entire thread is a false premise.

Canadians support for their style of health care is around 80%.

I am not working anymore...That right there puts me on the rationing , because I "do not support" the communist way of working till your dead.

I found this book very interesting.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XQEVMQ/?tag=ff0d01-20

The author had a problem with his shoulder and he goes around the world to see what various HC systems would do for him in his case. The Brits said to live with it, iirc. The Indians required that he consult an astrologer before they would do anything--seriously. In the US, the doctor recommended a complete surgical shoulder rebuild. Quite the spectrum.

Anyways, I found it interesting to read about other systems which provide universal HC but do not go the Brit route of total govt management and co-exist with insurance companies. Places like Germany.

Our waiting lists are a national scandal. However this has only happened under 10 years of a Conservative government. There needs to be a funding formula that protects us from the tories.
