Even though the chances of you and your children contracting rabies is very minimal it's always best to know how to prevent it from ever happening. According to the CDC, roughly 55,000 people have already died from rabies (worldwide). That's one person every 10 minutes. An even more staggering statistic is that 40% of people bitten by a potentially rabid animal are kid ages 15 and younger. Which leads to the importance of education your children and other loved ones about the risk of having contact with a wild or stray animal

Here are a few tips to help you prevent rabies:
  • Vaccinate all domestic animals(Cats, Dogs, Ferrets, etc.) against rabies.
  • Keep your pets under supervision while outside.
  • Never handle stray or wild animals. Contact an animal control officer or game warden if you find a stray or come into contact with a strange acting animal.
  • By spaying and neutering you are decreasing the chances of your pet roaming away from home and coming into contact with other strays or wild animals.
  • Keep all trash removed from campsites and outside your homes. As well as having a tight lid on all trash containers.
  • Enjoy wildlife from a distance, don’t risk the chance of contracting rabies.
