Writing in The Washington Post, Peña Nieto claimed that it is “a mistake to limit our bilateral relationship to drugs and security concerns.” He emphasized that Mexico is both a growing market for U.S. exports and a manufacturing platform that is both competitive and proximate.

Predicts The Economist, by 2018 America will import more from Mexico than from China. And the U.S. will sell more, too, if Mexico’s economy continues to grow.

And this doesn't even touch the huge amounts spent by Americans on the drugs being smuggled in from there!

Mexico has a 2 pronged problem stemming from it's neighbor. America is one of the biggest suppliers of small arms to Mexico and one of the biggest consumers of drugs.

And this government really hasn't tackled either problem in a serious or effective manner. That doesn't seem like it's going to change.
