....there's obviously a serious lack of awareness on the Left these days. Actually it can be said all of humanity suffers a serious lack of awareness - on the Left what they're missing is the right wing putsch underway. Hell, no doubt half the puppets spewing Ailes' and WND's horseshit have no idea of the scope of this putsch, so it' not surprising it has yet appeared on the radar screen. WI's new super whore gov is merely the designated lead-off batter in the insurgency.

Just ran across this great piece on the Alternet site. I've pasted a nice excerpt below, but check out the description George Lakoff provides for the 'authoritarian personality' - the basis for the reactionary mindset, the source of the Right Wing Disease we're seeing all around us these days.

I'm convinced the liberal/progressive demographic was lulled to sleep during Clinton's fantastically successful presidency, and spent most of the Bushterfuck railing against the idiot president/stooge and not seeing this John Birch Society/Barry Goldwater/Ron Paul Looneytarian-style putsch being launched. Pfffffft!....right under the radar screen.

Things will be getting MUCH more interesting as the nation continues on to it's now inevitable 3d World status. The Oligarchs will continue to convince the authoritarians/reactionaries that their government helping poor people and educating the public has made them poor - not the thousands of crooks hanging around Wall Street and K Street - nope, those are the good guys, just trying to look out for them.

Fasten your seat belts, folks. And check out our nation's history in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Redux city.

What the Right-wing Assault on Women, Unions, the Environment, Health Care and PBS Is All About

In the 2008 campaign, candidate Obama accurately described the basis of American democracy: Empathy - citizens caring for each other, both social and personal responsibility-acting on that care, and an ethic of excellence. From these, our freedoms and our way of life follow, as does the role of government: to protect and empower everyone equally. Protection includes safety, health, the environment, pensions and empowerment starts with education and infrastructure. No one can be free without these, and without a commitment to care and act on that care by one's fellow citizens.

The conservative worldview rejects all of that.

Conservatives believe in individual responsibility alone, not social responsibility. They don't think government should help its citizens. That is, they don't think citizens should help each other. The part of government they want to cut is not the military (we have 174 bases around the world), not government subsidies to corporations, not the aspect of government that fits their worldview. They want to cut the part that helps people. Why? Because that violates individual responsibility.

As the first response illustrated, there will be few if any reactionaries responding who have the faintest idea what I just posted. Freakin mental patients.

Oh, forgot to mention.

This same group of reactionaries hijacked Christianity long ago, and now purport to run that show, while exhibiting all the qualities this Jesus of Nazareth railed against. Fuckin incredible.

The board will probably notice the lunatic fringe's posts will get even lamer than that one, as time goes on.

Never fails.

You just posted in favor of a communist central planning type of government, whether you understand that or not.
The US Constitution is what needs to be followed. Please factor that into your thesis.

Im amazed that anyone who is arguing for group rights can imagine that they are trying to empower individuals.

Wisconsin's elected leadership wants to have the same playing field as the many right to work states. If the union was doing such a great job, why would they worry about an election every year? ( and a year ago, they wanted to remove any election with Card Check, LOL)
Obama has rightly had to get involved because this will spread like a virus once the GOP Wisconsin Senate gets one of the gutless Dem senator to show up. They GOP Wisconsin Senate shows up Tuesday and will start to pass some non spending bills, with the simple majority. First one up? Proper ID will be required for voting. These Dems will make it open season on all conservative non-spending programs until they finally show up.
By the way, W had " No Child Left Behind " and now Obama has " No Union Left Behind"

Isn't is awesome how those who continually shout from the rooftops how smart they are the ones who cling to that which has failed 100% of the time?

It's just nature. Those who think they are superior to others are generally really stupid.

Stupid Leftist fucks. Been there done that, have the T-shirt, it doesn't work.

Some people are always more equal than others.

You are not one of them, eaglebeak. Your feathers were plucked long ago. If reactionaries of the far right win this, they destroy populism, and America goes back to the bad old ways. The union put everything on the table to negotiate except their collective bargaining right. The WI says it's not about union busting. If that's true, he will sit down with them. If he doesn't, he is going to find out what the sixties were all about.

Jake- won't be the first time a union is busted and sure as hell will not be the last time. Unions are a dying breed and a little more than 7% of the private sector are holding on. Of course unions gave Obama better than 200 million in the last election, so I understand your concern and pain.
Please enlighten us on this "sixties were all about". I grew up in the 60's and I sure am wondering what you think is possibly going to happen.

I disagree with your mis-description of the union position as "populism". Have you seen "Waiting for superman" yet? If not see it, then you'd understand what real populism is about viz teacher's unions. Then think about GM, and what the unions did to make it uncompetitive.

If you're referring to the 60s in terms of "Jimmy Hoffa" and union crime syndicates, then you might be surprised at the level of sophistication law enforcement has attained....
