Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, has a racially insensitive name and is in need of a name change.

He took a leave and returned to Arlington, taking days to ponder his future and in the end he chose to resign from the Army and assume command of the rebel forces.
I don't consider him a traitor but people who don't know his story will. Incidentally, Lee, when he was a Colonel, commanded the newly formed 5th Cavalry Regiment which to this day is one of the most decorated and battle tested regiment in the US Army. I have been a proud member of the Regiment and of the Regimental Association for over 53 years. Our motto is "Loyalty and Courage" and we are nicknamed "The Black Knights" in honor of Robert E Lee.

Robert E. Lee however isn't the issue and never has been. That's a strawman deflection put out by the OP.

The issue as far as there is one is the Lost Cause movement and its use of Robert E. Lee --- and Davis and Jackson and the Klan, et al --- to whitewash the whole history of the Confederacy into some noble cause it never was, and doing it through not only on the backs of those dead soldiers and dead issues but on the backs of public square imagery as well as through media. The public monument aspect of that movement is what's under review, whether it involves Lee or not, whether it involves slaveholding or not, whether it involves anybody in particular or not.

NONE of which has jack friggety squat to do with Robert E. Lee, Thomas Jefferson, Arlington National Cemetery, the Washington Monument or anything else the OP tries to toss in his massive deflection laundry list. And he damn well knows it.

It's also interesting to note that one guy who would have been (and indeed was) totally against putting up statues of Robert E. Lee was --- Robert E. Lee.

For those who think slavery was the only things on people's mind before the civil war, I suggest a little historical primer. It's amazing to me how many people in 2017 know everything about the 1850s. While it satisfies leftist moral outrage to say slavery was the only issue going on back then, as usual, it's a whole lot more complicated than that. Actually many southerners thought they were closer to the ideals of the founders than the yankees were.
