Personally a National I.D. I have never been in favor of because states already have I.D. systems in place that are consistant with our form of Govt. and it's not needed. A national I.D. will not prevent in anyway illegal immigration if that is the purpose here. when the Federal Govt. still does not choose to enforce the laws it has on the books. It has always seemed to me to be somewhat redundant to have a National ID when you have a SSN, Military ID, a DL and a State ID , and several other forms of ID that basically outline who you are. In my opinion some seem to forget this is the United States and not a borderless United America, so each state should be allowed to decide what is best when it comes to setting the ID of those people who reside in their states. Now combine that with a Federal Govt. that actually enforces laws, like immigration, and homeland securty then perhaps we would have to have a debate on a National ID Card.
