Tiger missed the cut today, by a lot. While he still manages to make Tiger-like shots, he also shits the bed periodically. Today on holes 2-4 he was a total of seven strokes over par. Other than that, not a bad round.

He was recently quoted as saying that he still thinks that another major is within his reach. It's not apparent. Indeed, it's not clear whether he would even be a factor on the "Champions" tour at his current level of play (in 18 months or so).

But golf is a perverse sport for golfers who have reached the pinnacle of success, even without any physical diminution. Consider Jordan Speith, who was literally on top of the golf world in 2016, and has floated down to a level of mere excellence despite having every imaginable tool and advantage to keep him in top form. He is now 30 years old and physically in the best position to play golf in his entire life. There are many other similar examples of golfers who were on top of the world and simply lost it for no apparent reason. And if that is the case, how could Tiger Woods, who is much older and has suffered through tremendous injuries, get back to the top? It's like asking MJ to reproduce his greatness at age 42.

The situation is perverse. The golf world pines for Tiger's return. Upon hitting a nice shot out of the rough on 18 a little while ago, a female spectator screamed, "Tiger, we love you!"

But that won't be enough.

It would be nice if the USA had even a single world star in any of the world sports .
Even a one legged old man Golfer . Guess the decline is in line with everything else stamped US .
