[Updated at 2:18 p.m.] At least two of the victims killed at a shooting in a Carson City, Nevada, IHOP restaurant were military members who were wearing their uniforms, Chuck Allen with the Nevada Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

Police were still looking into the shooter's possible motive, Allen said, but officials were taking precautions in case military personnel were specifically targeted.

Five of the nine people who were shot Tuesday were members of the National Guard, a spokesperson told CNN affiliate KRNV. Two were killed and the other three are being treated in area hospitals.

Will this shooting become another media circus blaming everybody but the shooter?

Maybe. Will this shooting be another circus advocating that everyone carry a concealed weapon to shoot down the mentally ill who shoot innocents?

It doesn't matter when it get's to that point the bullet is not going to stop because the person was mentally ill. Iwould suggest people buy a gun and keep it with them at all times and take a firearms course.

as the motive is still unknown but reports of suicide contemplation and mental illness surface i'm starting to think that this was a variation of suicide by cop - with the mistaken belief that the guardsmen would be armed.

although it's tough to say, really. more civilians than guardsmen were shot. the guardsmen may have simply chosen the wrong restaurant that morning.

Everything is political. People who try to tell you different are political activists. For some perspective, we are coming up on the 2nd anniversary and the jihad major Nadal still hasn't been tried. He killed 13 of his own men in a cold blooded rampage. Apparently Ft. Hood was sensitive to gun control and the MP's weren't armed or trained. They had to call the local police.
