The Chief Justice is neither a liberal nor a conservative toady is what you are saying.
 
On occasion an appointment of a judge to the Court has backfired.
The president selects a judge because the nominees politics, appoints him because of his politics and bingo the judge begins judging on factors other than politics. It has happened, and is why the framers threw in that job for life thing. Be nice if Roberts began deciding cases on the Constitution and the good of America.
