It was a seedy run down part of town filled with transient hotels and cheap bars and in the morning it smelled like an open air latrine. Now almost ALL of San Francisco is like the Tenderloin.

It used to be marginally more sanitary before California banned plastic grocery bags. The homeless would line the bucket with a bag and toss the full bag in a dumpster. That's how feces lined streets got to be such a problem. California banned the bags.

I parked cars for theater goers on Mason between Geary and O'ferrell in the late 60's for the few months after Separation from active duty.
