This notion of corporate 'self-regulation' is an anachronistic myth.

Corporations are solely responsible for all regulatory measures and policies they're subject to, the consequence of their arrogance, hubris, and capricious disregard for the well-being of consumers and local communities.

And the notion that 'market forces' would provide adequate regulatory oversight is just as much a naïve anachronism.

If you reduce the EPA and eliminate what you claim "over burdensome" regulations corporations will just ignore what is left and pay the paltry fines because it is cheaper than dealing with their pollution.

The EPA is all that stands between us and having air and water like they do in Beijing. The smog in LA was going exactly that way before California took a stand. Ask the people in PA what it means to have their tap water catch fire or in NC and WV what it means to not being to drink their water because of pollution. And that is under the current EPA and regulations. You believe in fairy tales if you imagine that it would be better with fewer EPA inspectors and less regulations.
