Self-injury is not a healthy way for a teenage girl or adult to 'deal with real life'.

What's pathetic is finding it amusing.

It is by no means amusing. But it's not uncommon. This is perfectly normal in modern society.

Cutting is not normal in modern society. It is unhealthy behavior that should be treated seriously and professionally, not normalized.

Perhaps normal isn't the term I should have used. But it is common and socially acceptable nowadays.
