Obama's insurance requirement not the only mandate - Yahoo! News

The individual insurance requirement that the Supreme Court is reviewing isn't the first federal mandate involving health care.

There's a Medicare payroll tax on workers and employers, for example, and a requirement that hospitals provide free emergency services to indigents. Health care is full of government dictates, some arguably more intrusive than President Barack Obama's overhaul law.

I love how a tax (that only working people pay) is trying to be equated to a country wide mandate. It gets even worse when they compare mandates on hospitals and insurance companies to individuals.

Pathetic.

Actually it's the Republicans health care mandate...

1993 - GOP Health Plan (their answer to HilaryCare) includes a Mandate.
1996 - RomneyCare includes a Mandate.
2008 - GOP Candidates McCain & Romney support a Mandate, Candidate Obama does not.
2010 - Pres. Obama's Health Plan, as a concession to Republicans, includes a Mandate.
2011 - Suddenly a Mandate is Socialism and UnConstitutional.
2012 - Right Rank & File are totally clueless that their votes have been supporting a Mandate
for 20 years.

I am not sure I understand your contention here.

Its the repubs fault democrats pushed and passed it. Ask him...

go ahead and let the right wing court strike it down.

the country will have to do universal care if you do

Yes, let's not worry about the constitution in their deliberations.

I mean, you bastards have been using the courts to thwart the will of the people for decades.

Now, the court is going to do it the right way...and you don't like it.

Die quickly.

Actually, I was thinking it was arguing that Medicare should be struck down too.

it should

and social security should be optional

both are forcing people to pay for those who can't invest their own money properly

While I laud your post, I am afraid that phasing them out will take a lot of time.

I would go for a constitutional amendment that requires some form of retirement savings. Think of what housing interest rates would be with all that cash looking for a home.

This isn't an issue about health care or whether a government can regulate an industry or not ~ it's an issue whether a government has aright to interceded in our life and demand/force us to patronize a particular industry, in this case the "insurance" industry.

Again, this is not a healthcare issue before the court, it's all about the insurance INDUSTRY. If they wanted to make sure health care was paid for, they could simply mandate that everyone that's not insured MUST pay their own medical bills, period! Give them the care they need but force them to pay for their care, don't force them to buy insurance policies if that's not what they want to buy instead. I.E. let people pay their own bills themselves if they don't want insurance or can't afford that right now.

They have to be right, because they have good intentions.

It's the Republican's mandate.

It is their idea from 1993.

They were for it before they were againist it.

That's why I laughed when the AP said they didn't want their poll used to determine the national college football championship because they didn't think a news reporter should influence the news.

yeah, that's the AP's mantra...
