This Is Not The Way Marines Should Act

Marines singing cadences or whatever doesn't matter. Getting caught singing it and being publicised is. Especially if the nutjobs use it to show other easily influenced nutjobs what infidels think of them. The guy who took the video shoulda thought before he went public....hopefully the story will die...

I totally disagree, particularly with "getting caught singing it". Cadences have been around since the first organized military army went to the field. SOme cadences are simple, some are silly, and some are down right pornographic....so what.

I have a great deal of trouble understanding how those who talk about winning hearts and minds can get all upset over this and yet not bat an eye when the terrorists publicise videos of their atrocities. If anyone thinks the enemy gives a damn about our sensitivities to ANYTHING, they need to rethink.

Frankly, I could give a damn about their hearts and minds. When it comes to war, I dont want the Mormon Tabernacle Choir fighting with me or for me. I want the meanest, crudest, rudest SoB with a killer instinct I can get. War is not about making nicey-nice, it is not about sensitivity or political correctness. It is about killing, destruction and chaos. Those that have never been in it (at the pointy end of the spear as they say) have no idea; they can read about it, hear stories about it, see films about it, and even speculate about it but they will never come close to the actual experience.

It's a common trait among young lawyers. You graduate from law school quite liberal, thinking you know it all, and damn sure that no one can possibly out-debate you.

:)

Young lawyer? You wanna talk about dismissive? lol...I've been out of school since I was 22. I'm 40 in a few weeks. And it's not about thinking I can't be out-debated. There are people who are quite capable of that.

What I don't do is get into pissing matches. Thanks, anyway.

This goes to what one things is right and what one thinks is wrong. And Manu's synopsis about what I was saying was correct...I think things like this needlessly make our troops even bigger targets and incites rage against them. They deserve better.

Jillian, it's what they call putting on your "war face". We are asking these kids to go out every day and possibly do some things that are against their very human nature and that is to put themselves in extreme danger and maybe even to kill another human being. That is not something you do lightly. It takes a certain amount of discipline, resolve and yes, even a bit of false, self generated bravado. A morbid sense of humor helps too.... These cadences not only help bear the physical burden, they help alleviate the stress and are even more importantly part of the mental preparation. I am not surprised at this song and video and not alarmed by it either....it is definitely a normal part of military life. Heck, there are a lot worse things our military members do and endure that would probably make you faint if you knew about them....

See, if you knew me, you'd know I have nothing but respect for the men and women who go out and risk their lives which is why I think government, before it sends kids to die, should ask if the goal is something for which they would risk their own children.

And I understand about the "war face" and think they should blow off steam any way they need to while living in unliveable conditions. And Grump probably said it better than I did when he made the observation that it was the publicizing of this that is problematic.

Off to work now. Enjoy your morning. :salute:

Well, publicly I would rather have the enemy think I am a fierce warrior than a politically correct, "sensitive" pushover. Other than having the enemy grossly underestimate the fighting capability of US forces, I see no advantage to presenting our forces as merely an extension of the Peace Corps or Red Crescent/Red Cross.

Never said you did not respect them. And cannot say I disagree with your sentiment. I was pretty upset about Bosnia/Kosovo myself!

And I understand about the "war face" and think they should blow off steam any way they need to while living in unliveable conditions. Hmmm does that include putting their video on an internet site? Apparently not. And Grump probably said it better than I did when he made the observation that it was the publicizing of this that is problematic. Well, other than the initial posting on the internet, just exactly WHO publicised this?

Off to work now. Enjoy your morning. :salute:

Have a great Army day!

It wasn't satire. It was disgusting. And if you don't see the difference between the rap and the song -- which describes one of our guys seeking shelter with the girl and then blowing away her family -- then there's not a lot to say.

I also don't think your lyrics are complete because it leaves out the part about him blowing away her father....

Yes, it WAS satire, the chorus was a direct reflection of the movie, Team America:

1. durka durka

Go see "Team America: World Police"
This is the foundation phrase upon
which all terrorist speech is based.

Jillian, all I can say is..simply amazing.

Your passionate outrage at a song the Marines sing is simply amazing.

This is all you have? The Marines sing a song about killing Iraqis. Like this is new. As many people have pointed out, these little songs, ditties, cadences, etc have been around since before World War One and have talked about things much worse than this.

Where is your outrage at rap songs in the U.S. about hoes and pimps and blowing away the cops? Where is your outrage at R. Kelly videotaping him having sex with a 13/14 year old?

Where is your passionate outrage about the Iraqi's killing our soldiers with land mines and car bombs?

And don't say you are anti-war, that if we were never over there, our soldiers would die. I said..where is your outrage the attacks the Iraqi's are carrying out against our soldiers?

Are you pissed off at the Iraqi's?

Or do you save that for your constant U.S. government/U.S. military-bashing?

It appears to be working:

Press release on Hadji Girl
Posted By Uncle Jimbo

I spoke to the PAO at MCAS Cherry Point where CPL Bellile is stationed and got the following press release from them:

2nd_maw *** Press Release ***

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. (June 14, 2006) – The 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing is conducting a preliminary inquiry into a video that was recently posted on the Internet showing a Marine singing an insensitive song about Iraqi citizens.

The video, which was posted anonymously, is clearly inappropriate and contrary to the high standards expected of all Marines. The video is not reflective of the tremendous sacrifices and dedication demonstrated, on a daily basis, by tens of thousands of Marines who have assisted the Iraqi people in gaining their freedom. We agree with the executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations that the inappropriate actions of a few individuals should not tarnish the reputation of all American military personnel.

I asked the PAO Mike Barton a few questions:

Had he seen the video? Yes

Did he think it was funny? Can't comment, and he didn't chuckle or anything, guy's a real pro.

What part of the video did he consider clearly inappropriate? Can't comment

What type of inquiry is being conducted and what sections of the UCMJ are in play? This is a quick and informal inquiry, an investigative tool that will determine if there were any violations. Just a fact-finding mission

I would like to believe that this inquiry would conclude that he did nothing wrong and USMC HQ was shameful for kow towing to CAIR, but they have showed zero spine thus far.......so. I'm back corresponding again. This time to:

Robert E. Milstead, Jr.
Brigadier General, U.S. Marine Corps
Commanding General, 2D MAW

[email protected]

I believe he is the top dawg in CPL Bellile's chain of command and the decider on whether they will throw his scalp to the mob.

Dear Gen. Milstead,

There is currently a preliminary inquiry underway regarding CPL Joshua Bellile and his performance of the song Hadji Girl while in Iraq. As a former military man and as an American I ask you to think long and hard about taking disciplinary action against him. It would be a travesty for someone who risked his life for the freedoms of others to have something as precious as his own free speech revoked, let alone for the US Marine Corps he serves faithfully to be the one doing it.

Your press release stated that the video was clearly inappropriate. What exactly did the USMC find that was clearly inappropriate? I watched the video and laughed out loud. I understand the difficulty that something such as this can cause in relations with the Iraqis, but in taking the complaints from CAIR to heart you have actually made things worse. You validated the lies they have told about the song and have given ammunition to anti-American media and messengers worldwide.

Read the lyrics sir, and tell me this is clearly inappropriate. This is not the first correspondence I have sent on this matter and I will continue to write and publish until you stand by your Marine. Semper Fi Do or Die right General? Well you need to show your man some good faith.

Cordially,

Jim Hanson

I encourage anyone else to do the same and always maintain the high ground when writing, we are the good guys. Allah at Hot Air says it's helping.

I just got off the phone with [a source in the Pentagon]. The Cpl. reported to me that they were all VERY appreciative of the support and that this was a “Brass” decision… He said they were already getting calls and that it was helping, but they needed to get a lot more to make a difference. It really is helping the Marines to know that they are not alone and that not everyone hates them… He said these calls were making everyone’s day.

It's an understandable misimpression. You argue young.

Some of us here are doing what we can to show them our support, too.
