“We talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick.” – President Obama

“He [BP CEO] wouldn’t be working for me.” – President Obama

“Bring those responsible to justice on behalf of the victims of this catastrophe.” – President Obama

I could go on, but instead, I ask: how are these comments by the President helping stop a huge oil leak that is devastating our waters, endangering our wildlife, and negatively impacting the economy of the Gulf region, as well as hurting the people there, again?

There will be plenty of time for the President to investigate, potentially prosecute, talk tough and play the blame game AFTER the oil leak is stopped. Right now, the immediate focus of the President should be cooperating with everyone to stop the leak. We’ve learned from the past that cooperation is key.

It came as a complete shock to me when I heard the President say on June 8, DAY FIFTY of the oil spill, “I have not spoken to him [BP CEO] directly … Because my experience is, when you talk to a guy like a BP CEO, he’s going to say all the right things to me. I’m not interested in words. I’m interested in actions.”

Speaking of words, in his May 27 press conference, the President said, “My job is to get this fixed… in case you were wondering who’s responsible, I take responsibility. It is my job to make sure that everything is done to shut this down.”

And speaking of actions, in that same press conference, the President also admitted, “When it comes to stopping the leak down below, the federal government does not possess superior technology to BP.”

BP and the government need each other. So, I question again, how is the President publically chastising and threatening BP with criminal actions – a company that has pledged to pay for the damage caused by the oil spill accident and who likely wants this resolved more than anyone– helping to stop the oil? How is that finding a workable solution so we don’t see more economic loss? How is that encouraging cooperation between BP and the Obama Administration to get the job done?

And how do you get the actions the President says he’s so interested in, given he’s the one taking responsibility, when we are 50+ days into this spill and President Obama still hasn’t had a direct discussion with the CEO of BP?

Former President Harry S. Truman once said, “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.”

Perhaps, it’d be more appropriate to share a modified version of this quote with President Obama: “It is amazing what you can accomplish TOGETHER if you do not care who gets the credit OR THE BLAME.”

It’s time the President stopped speaking out of both sides of his mouth and started being the leader. Take action, not just talk tough. Once the President can “plug the damn hole,” then he is more than welcome to find “whose ass to kick.”

So what you're saying is you are in favor of more government intervention? Got it.

No. That's what YOU got from the article. Nice try.

What'd ya expect? We have a President with all the real-world experience of a second grader... a man who's never done a damn thing of any noteworthyness in his life.

This is what you get.

No just someone to lead the government that we already have. Isn't that the job of the President? To lead.

No. That's what YOU got from the article. Nice try.

With the dumb-ass that's in charge that's a dangerous proposition.

Obama would be better served to hire Mitt Romney to fix this mess...you know....someone who has leadership experience who can get things done. Witness the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

Yeah, I'm sure during the course of Obama's community organizing days he spent a lot of time stopping oil leaks nearly a mile underwater. Or maybe it was in his Illinois Senate days...or was that when he was in the U.S. Senate? But I'll leave it up to you to poll all of the other people who comprise our government as to where they gained their underwater expertise.

( ... blushing )

Thanks Mud!

I'll take a 'lift me up off the floor' bear hug over the reps, if you're so willing.

So ALL of you have still failed to answer whether or not you want the government to step in and fix this mess. It's a simple yes or no answer, but everyone wants to go on rants about community leaders and lack of experience, etc...

I know this might be hard, but try and answer with a yes or no.
Should Obama/government be stepping in and fixing this BP disaster?

well, thanks to the lack of leadership and the extreme left wing demonization of BP,, the government aka We the People will have to fix it as you guys have demonized BP to the extent they have no value, the Brits are pissed Mexico is pissed and yes.. we the American taxpayer will foot the bill. not that that will involve you in any way shape or form.

Is the government more capable of fixing/stopping the leak? Then yes.
Is BP more capable of fixing/stopping the leak? Then let them do it.
A third party who has come up with the answer? Go for it.
At this point I don't care who stops it . . . just so it's stopped.

So Obama gets a pass because he can't do the job.

Excellent.

A good leader is someone who goes out and finds those who do have the expertise delegates authority when needed and keeps the petal to the metal till the job is finished.

Obama's biggest flaw is he's too lazy for the job....not that he's too inexperienced.

No, of all his faults I do not think Obama is lazy. You cant get elected POTUS and be lazy.
But he is a politician and sees everything--and I mean everything--in terms of political gain or loss. So as long as no one noticed he wasn't doing anything he was fine not doing anything. But when his inaction became a political issue he suddenly struggled to look like he was engaged, declaring he had been on the scene since Day One.

Everything he has done since then has been done with a political calculation. Blaming BP is just part of that.
What he should have done is consulted with BP and other experts to work out ways to fix the leak and ameliorate damage where the resources of the US government would make a difference. But that would be too much like governing and not enough like campaigning so he couldn't do it.

While my previous post was a bit sarcastic I thought even someone like you might get the point. Obama/government are no more qualified to step in and fix things than the man on the moon!

The people with the most experience in deep water drilling are obviously having trouble stopping the flow, so only and idiot would think either Obama or our government is the answer.

The man is completely clueless. How did he become President? He had no executive experience at all and it's definitely showing. Most involved are saying that no one's in charge of this calamity. What a mess. A failed "Community Organizer" and part-time Senator does not a President make.

Obama isn't in a hurry to find the right people nor is he in a hurry to work the problem.

Today was the first time he even spoke to the CEO of BP....50 sumodd days after the fact.
