Shame on Bush for even considering this.

White House Asks Court to Void POW Award
By JENNIFER C. KERR, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration urged an appeals court Wednesday to overturn a judge's order awarding nearly $1 billion in Iraqi money to 17 Americans taken prisoner by Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s government during the 1991 Persian Gulf War (news - web sites).

Attorneys for the POWs, who were tortured and starved, countered that the award — to be paid from Iraqi government assets frozen in this country — in no way threatens the rebuilding of Iraq (news - web sites), taking issue with the central argument of the administration.

Justice Department (news - web sites) attorney Gregory Katsas said that foreign policy interests are at stake, and that the POWs' claims should be handled through diplomatic channels rather than the courts.

Nearly as pathetic as the 911 Vitcims families getting MILLIONS in some cases...while the soldiers dying in Iraq are only 'worth' $200k

:(

While i agree with the sentiment of what the judge did on a emotinal level, it's procedurally wrong. Judges cannot start handing out iraqi money. It has to be handled differently. Bush did right.

I happen to agree with Bush on this. We need to get Iraq up and running. Draining their capital which will mostly go to trial lawyers to begin with is wrong. Yeah it sucks to be a POW held by Saddam im sure. but im sure they were aware of the risks before they went into Iraq. No one forced them there.

I am also very curious how the courts intend to enforce this ruling. They have no jursidiction in Iraq. Why on earth does anyone think our court can other nations?

Our judges have been quoted as saying we need to take case law from the EU into account when making our decisions. -Remember the whole thing about the Texas sodomy law?

They think we are in a "one-world" system of things now.

I am telling you......This whole one-world thing is wrapped up in socialism and is drawing us into it while everyone is focused on domestic issues.

The thing is, we basically are a one world government. It's been that way for fifty years. We're the rulers. What's at issue is: along what principles will the world government be conducted, the American Way, religious freedom, individual rights, economic freedom, or the leftist way, suppression of individual rights, active villification of society's producers, to empower politicians etc. We already provide a security blanket for the entire world, even our political enemies. Let's just get honest, shall we?

If you want to get honest, you have to look at the fact that there IS a definite point to the US being the top of the food chain for that length of time.

Look at world events and it becomes quite clear we are being rivaled by a socialist collective now. They are issuing commands, and we have caved on occasion. We ARE weakening. This is the point. If a one-world collective, socialist in nature, enforces their rules, what is the form of government going to become?

America will be dethroned by that sort of system as it has been progressing that way since the US has dominated. We ARE hated in much of the world for being on top.

Yes, I share your fears. That's why the failures of liberalism and liberal thinking is my main credo.

Why we will ultimately win is this. A top down command and control structure can only handle a few things, like security. Economic growth, integration of markets is simply too complex to be handled by one body, this is where the world government must employ individual initiative in the solution of that individual's personal problems. Classic vertical integration, elimination of the government as middleman and arbiter of personal success.

The EU is and has been coming up with viable solutions to make this all work. -They may not be as good as we are, but as a collective, they don't HAVE to be as good as we are.

It would appear your analysis doesn't take into account a verichip system for economics nor adopting terrorist cell-type military capacity for security. Both of these have been created into practice in the EU as of the last couple of months and are just being started on small scale to branch out.

It is a socialist system with a rotating head governing individual nation representatives.

You really ought to look at their documentation. There is no way America can fight this off in the long run unless we just unleash every nuke. Since THAT won't happen, we are not in a really great spot.

I'm not concerned about a trade war with EU right now. They're taxes and general socialist attitude make our country more attractive for investment dollars.
I think. Tell me more about your fears.

1. I am not talking about trade wars. You would assume them to not have any other capacities.

2. Just because America looks like a better place for investment, doesn't make it king of the world. Businesses can go south no matter how many people invest -for example.

3. Tell you about my FEARS? I don't FEAR this. I won't be here for the worst part. I am telling you what you refuse to look at plays a large part in overall workings in America's foreign relations and is shadowing over domestic relations. If you can't or won't look at that, I can't and WON'T waste my breath.

It doesn't benefit ME to have you believe this.

Dude. You seem to be a little mad. I really want to know. I respect you a lot. You're brilliant. I think this is something that's just off my radar. Are you talking about a military confrontation between eu and america?

I've been angry at europeans ever since their cowardice and corruption with Iraq, but I still believed that there was an underlying bond of trust. Maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Well, I guess I got a little too blunt. Sorry, I am not upset.

I respect you and your posts as well. You have insight to many things I do not.

With the EU, they are building up to rival us in every way. They already have superior political maneuvering and a nearly matched economic power. Military will be completed in the next couple years. If they are oriented to our demise and politically are backed by american democrats or socialists not to mention our judges and partnering nations, where do WE stand?

This is the point.

This happened the other day too. I know why. Most of my posts are posts of disagreement, as nothing motivates me more than lies and spin going unaddressed, so people assume that's my intent, and most of the time it is!

I know the european antiamericanism is rampant, but I figured it was just a way for lib politicians to garner local support from idiots, and that ultimately they do know where their bread is buttered. If anything, maybe we should just debunk the notion that EU is in any way our ally.

Tony Blair is handing a major portion of his power to the EU as well. There is a lot going on beyond Iraq.

It is no-win. That would be declairing we are then rivals and dares them to go against us.

It is ugly either way. That is the whole thing. As intricate as our relations are with the rest of the world, theirs is equally so -but their allies are more loyal and numerous.

The EU has already declared us to be rivals. The strongest argument they have come up with for joining the EU is to compete with the U.S. economically and politically on the world stage. This isn't rhetoric it is fact that the leaders and framers of the EU have declared it to be so

Yeah. What's depressing is that the fucking libs are on their side. I wish they would just leave, just so we know who's who.
