Steny Hoyer: “We have no intention of allowing the Republican tax increase — that their policies would lead to — to go into effect for working Americans. Period... We’re going to act and make sure that the Republican phase out and increase in taxes does not end as they provided for in the laws they passed.”

This is rich! I mean now stupid do they think we are? How desperatye are they, to come up with this one!

If Democrats let the tax cuts expire, it's THE REPUBLICAN'S FAULT?????????:lol::lol::lol:

That's like a drunk driver blaming the accident on the innocent person, because if he hadn't been there, the drunk wouldn't have hit him.

It's the republican's fault if Democrats allow the tax cuts to sunset??????

Oh man they really ARE desperate with November looming.

How on earth do they think this one works?????

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Shameless, but consistent.

Because the Dems prevented their extension in 2008.

Congress tends to pass permanent spending increases but only temporary tax relief. That's one of our biggest structural problems - along with the fiction of baseline budgeting and the lack of proper accrual accounting when establishing the budget.

Nope, that's not it. The sunset provision was included in the EGTRRA in 2001.

I'll give you a hint: it has to do with deciding to go the deficit-financed route.

Wrong.

The Senate today gave a sweeping endorsement to some of President Bush's tax cuts but rejected renewing others as all three major presidential candidates interrupted their campaigns to cast key votes on the budget.

The chamber voted 52-47 to reject a move by Senator Graham, a Republican of South Carolina, to extend Mr. Bush's tax cuts for middle- and higher-income taxpayers, investors, and people inheriting businesses and big estates....

It all boils down to one thing. They think all tax cuts must be paid for...but nevermind that when properly employed? They are in fact revenue generators.

But then Statists operate from a Zero Sum Game mentality. For someone to benefit...someone must LOSE.

Which is FAR from the truth and has been demonstrated as such. The problem is imprudent spending...

Revenue=BLANK CHECK for the Statists and their agenda.

And MY what a command these people have on the language? Literally changing the meaning of words?

What a Country!

It was the only way to get Democrat support.

Yea, let's take a look at those. Republicans passed trillions in tax cuts through reconciliation which is why they are "expiring".

52% went to the top 1% meaning the burden of the cost of two unpaid for Republican wars was shifted to the Middle Class.

The "reason" for the tax cuts was to create jobs. Only they were created in China. Companies were able to use that money to move those jobs overseas. Those companies appreciated the help of the Republican leadership.

In China, they just had a strike because of all the suicides in one of those enormous electronic sweatshops. Corporations gave into worker's demands and DOUBLED their salaries to 73 dollars a week, which I guess is what Republicans want American workers to make.

Those are the facts that Republicans keep defending. Why?

It's like Republicans are saying to corporations, "Give me a black eye" and then saying, "Can you make the other one black so they match?"

And then, when they have two black eyes, complain, "They aren't BLACK enough!"

It was the only way to get Democrat support.

No, actually it was the only way to pass the tax cuts without broader Democratic support.

I'll repeat the hint: it's in there precisely because the tax cuts weren't paid for.

That's is inane political speak promoted by the Left to prevent tax reductions.

Real economic history shows that tax decreased spur economic growth, leading to higher aggregate tax revenues. The bill was designed with the sunset provision in order to maneuver through Congress' self-imposed rules.

Now you're getting closer. The tax cuts were passed through reconciliation (you know, that evil legislative maneuver that had never been attempted before this year). Unfortunately for the Republicans, the rules don't allow you to pass things through reconciliation that increase the deficit past the 10-year budget window. Those tax cuts do, as a large chunk of our current deficit will testify.

Thus the only way to pass them without paying for them, was to sunset them at the end of the 10-year budget window. It was a neat little trick to get out of paying for them (by, say, cutting spending, that thing they claim to love doing). Had they done that, there would be no sunset provision and the status quo going into next year would not be Clinton-era tax brackets, it would be Bush-era tax brackets.

Republicans designed these tax cuts to expire because they designed them to be deficit-financed.

No. It was part of the compromise with Dems based on inane government accounting and forecasting that bears no relationship to the real world.

Folks, remember back when the Replublicans stopped new legislation because they wanted to make sure any new spending was paid for? This is how the Dems will blame the Republicans for the increase. To pay for all the huge federal spending this year they will have to let the Bush tax cuts elapse!!! This defacto increase will be blamed on the Republicans for their insistance on paying for what they spend.

Tax cuts weren't "Paid for" lol

Yeah the spending is always "paid for" but tax cuts never are.

Progressives are insane, there's no other explanation

There is an alternate explanation: they are perfectly sane and know just how to destroy a free market economy and replace it with a totalitarian one run for the benefit of themselves and their cronies.

I wonder if Republicans know where those companies got all that money to move jobs to China? And then PAY to train the Chinese? And PAY to build new plants. Bet it cost at least a trillion dollars.

whenever CON$ use the word "real" you know it's fake.

Higher tax revenues does not always correspond to economic growth. Bush"s cut in the cap gains tax led to higher revenue from speculators dumping capital assets like real estate rather than economic growth. Of course eventually the market becomes saturated and the bottom drops out. Cap gains cuts have historically led to boom and bust economies. Cap gains taxes should be set high to discourage speculation and never changed under any circumstance.
