Slavery lasted in America long after it was abolished in europe .. but more importantly and germaine to this conversation, after slavery was abolished in the US, it was followed by another 100 years of Jim Crow terrorism .. and as I've said, African-Americans found refuge in europe.
All true. The policies of slavery and genocide that the Europeans used to carve the United States, Australia, S. Africa, et al into the world map didn't die nearly as quickly or neatly as they were put away in Europe itself... and this did create more time for attitudes to evolve in the nations of the 'first' world.
