Thinking about a new build

The demands I put On spell check have bogged down the 32 bit machine. It have it is time to move up to 64 bit.

Good lord! What are you using? Do you regularly do a registry clean or defrag?

That was called a joke.
The mesh that I used for the avatar I sport was 1.5 gigs in maya
mr-fitnah-albums-avy-picture928-mekka.gif

and the machine was nearly under water .
Maya which is my favorite 3D program apparently only benefits from the intel architecture.
I need more than 500 watts as I use a lot of harddrives and Sli and will move up to cross fire .

I forgot you do graphics, oops.
Why not set up a home server or have you already done that?

I just found something horrifying.

That thing will do whatever you want before you even know you want it.

Glad I asked

The board only supports dual QPI chips. The 980X is only a single QPI chip. You will need to run Xeon CPU's, however you can run a single chip while waiting to get the second chip. For a full list of supported CPU's please refer here:EVGA | Support | Home Regards, EVGA

So the upgrade to 24 gigs will be a snap
Taking forever for the parts to get here.

HMMMM
The Quadro line of GPU cards emerged in an effort at market segmentation by NVIDIA. In introducing Quadro, NVIDIA was able to charge a premium for essentially the same graphics hardware in professional markets, and direct resources to properly serve the needs of those markets. To differentiate their offerings, NVIDIA used driver software and firmware to enable features vital to segments of the workstation market; e.g., high performance anti-aliased lines and two-sided lighting were reserved for the Quadro product. In addition, improved support through a certified driver program was put in place. These features were of little value in the gaming markets that NVIDIA's products already sold to, but prevented high end customers from using the less expensive products. This practice continues even today although some products use higher capacity faster memory.

NVIDIA GeForce To Quadro Soft-Mod Guide

The NVIDIA Quadro family of professional graphics cards are very, very expensive. They are generally 2-5X more expensive than their gaming counterparts, the NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards. But everyone knows that Quadro and GeForce graphics cards are virtually identical in hardware.

Yes, you read that right. Even with the unbelievable price tag, the NVIDIA Quadro is really no different from their desktop GeForce counterparts. So why is NVIDIA charging you so much for a Quadro?

It all revolves around the driver support for professional 3D applications like 3ds Max or Maya. Quadro drivers allow the Quadro to be used to accelerate the rendering operations of such professional 3D applications while GeForce drivers do not. This is the basis for the premium prices NVIDIA (and ATI) charge for their professional-grade graphics cards.

Obviously, you cannot just use Quadro drivers with your GeForce graphics cards. After all, it represents the thin red line between a really, really fat profit margin and just a "normal" profit margin. NVIDIA Quadro drivers are designed to detect the presence of an NVIDIA Quadro graphics card. It will not install if a GeForce card is detected instead.

However, there is an easy way to soft-mod (modify in software) a NVIDIA GeForce desktop graphics card into a NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics card. We will show you just how to do it in this guide.
