They have better stories!

Video game developers stand to lose more if they don't release a quality game. In the case of TV shows, you can release a pilot episode, and if it doesn't take off they can drop it with a minimal loss.

A single video game can take years to produce. Then they have to drop money into advertising and producing a certain number of copies. So one failed video game can result in a huge loss to a company.

The newest trend seems to be producing quality original series on cable stations like AMC and A&E. As well as a large numbers of series being released exclusively on Netflix. Network television doesn't seem to even try anymore.
