I love this thinking. It is on par with the one that says since more blacks percentage wise are convicted and imprisoned we should just let them go.

The only thing the article gets right is the idiotic laws passed in the 80's and early 90's. Right up there with the "Zero tolerance" crap schools and other places use. Good idea now, kick them out so they have NO health care.

On the one hand, it's like, boo-hoo. These men are CRIMINALS and they are paying a price for their crimes. On the other, are 60-year-olds such a danger?

I think the whole thing is pretty fucked up, but America's racial landscape makes it even more so. Most prisoners are blacks and Hispanics. I say let THEM go... back to Africa and Mexico, etc. Let THOSE people take care of them. Once we have that cleared up, we can think about old white cons and what to do with them.

Liberal criminologists (there are no others) have tried for decades to find some method of "rehabilitating offenders". Nothing really works, except the process of aging. Let a violent criminal out of prison, even at the end of a five or ten year term, and the odds are he will "offend" again ... unless he's older than about 50, I think the change-of-life age is. Even here there are exceptions (you're only as old as you think you are, etc).

So how about this idea, which has a tiny tiny tiny chance of being taken up: give every violent criminal, regardless of race, a life sentence, or near enough, but when they are over fifty-five, give them the option of serving their time, in exchange for renouncing their citizenship, in an "Open Prison" on some island off the coast of Africa -- surely some African government could be bribed to arrange this. Airdrop food and liquor and dope and porn mags once a week, keep a few Navy cutters on patrol around the island (and maybe encourage sharks to breed in the local waters, if that is possible).
